I know I've seen this device mentioned several times and have noted many using it for front-end removal, etc. I even think I've seen a description of how to make one; but damned if I can find the post. Can anyone direct this senile old fool?

Wouldn't it be the same/just as easy to get a front wheel stand? Have some weight on the rear of the bike to put the rear tire down....
Remove the front wheel, put the axle bolt back in, and have it rest on a front wheel stand. Just curious.

The stand lets you do work even with the entire front fork assembly removed; when "wheel' stands don't work very well. Based on some bobbin-based stands I looked into at the time, the "sky hook" (black pipe) was much less expensive.
