Since this thread has thoroughly taken a left turn... My wife is British, home of Pimms. There are several Pimms, some Gin based, some Scotch based. Pimms Cup #1 is in essence a Gin Sling with bitters. Pimms is generally mixed with either lemon/lime soda or Ginger Ale but MUST have cucumber :bad: , typically a twist of the peel. When served British style, the drink is a real fruit salad. The way my wife's family makes Pimms is to use fresh fruit for flavoring the Pimms and Ginger Ale for sweetness and sparkle.

Fill a large glass pitcher with a whole bottle of Pimms. Add an apple, sliced in wedges, lemon sliced in wedges, lime sliced in wedges, and a few thin slices of cucumber. Let macerate for at least half an hour.

Fill a tall glass with ice, add 2 oz. Pimms from the pitcher and fill the glass with Ginger Ale -- typically 6 oz Ginger Ale, add the afore mentioned cucumber peel. Quaff.

It is a magical mix, the first drink disappears quite quickly, with the drinker never realizing that they just sucked it all down. By the time you have nearly finished the second glass the first glass is starting to kick in and you realize it was a mistake to have had the second glass. Have a third because your good judgment is shot. By this time nobody can find their glass so the third drink almost never gets finished.

Because of the sweetness, Pimms hits early and hard and leaves a headache second only to Southern Comfort. To achieve the same 'liquid panty remover' effect as Southern Comfort make Pimms using only strawberries in the Pimms and use a good Champaign in place of the Ginger Ale. It goes down even quicker than the original mix and carries quite a payload. Chairs must have arm rests when drinking this, no bar stools please

Motorcycle content: Never ride after drinking Pimms  Don't plan on an early ride the next morning. :glare:

At the end of the day there is nothing like a good pint. Warm. There is Harveys Bristol Cream Sherry which goes in both the chef and the deserts. My father-in-law has his trusty old Yard of Ale glass which is literally a yard long and has a round bulb base that can't be set down until you have drained it.

When your day can start with kidney and bacon and dinner can be Shepard’s pie, bangers and mash or bubble and squeak, pudding sounds so much more benign. Then you discover blood pudding and Yorkshire pudding made with rendered fat and realize that even the puddings aren't safe. If the Christmas pudding doesn't kill you outright there is the risk of choking on one of the silver charms that they sneak in. Christmas pudding may be the only thing in nature more compact than a black hole...

I’ve gotten used to the cuisine and beverages but it is unsettling to raise me mum-in-law’s bonnet and pour in a quart of oil and pop her boot and dig for groceries. Going out to eat my brother-in-law loudly says, “Gotta ***?” And, when parting company at the airport he yells, “Keep your pecker up!”

On the other hand, my brother-in-law wants to know what’s up with our carnivorous insects. He is also concerned about all of southern California’s kings and queens.

I think this thread may need to be moved to Jooshead's International site...so they can talk about us Yanks and our wierd ways.
