HATE NOISY!! Bikes, thumper stereos, leaf blowers, car horns "just to say Hi" - any unnecessary noise is inherently irritating. While I'm very happy neither the bike nor the diesel p/u requires the annual or semiannual trek to the smog shop and while I also think the government has its nose stuck into far too much of our business already (is that over the political/ non-political line? Apologies, if so) - if a mandatory inspection would de-noise the one complete a**hat noisy Harley owner in the neighborhood AND make the nice daily (noisy-Harley) rider both put legal mufflers on their bikes, I'd actually have to support that bit of legislation.

I like quiet, I respect quiet, but others don't (sure a lot of Harleys, but don't forget the screamers on jap bikes too); some guy(s) with power, get pissed, and then makes more laws, and we all lose another freedom.

the article did tend to lump us all together as one just because HD riders move in packs.

I totally agree with this ---> One major source of urban noise, that of motorcycles, is optional and totally unnecessary.

The author is not picking on all motorcyclist - just those that are annoyingly loud and other devices that are loud.

People do have a right to some peace and quiet.

Most municipalities already have a noise ordinance in place but it becomes just another law that is not enforced.

Just enforce the laws we already have in place.

Loud pipes suck.

Sorry bro, I gotta disagree with the "major source of urban noise" bit. Urban noise, yes, but major source? No way. Here's a short list of Things That Make Racket In The City:

Cop/Firetruck/Ambulance sirens

Brake squeal on garbage trucks at 6AM

Semis using their jake brakes to decelerate

The constant roar of all the traffic - which never ends, it just waxes and wanes through the course of a 24 hour period.

In over 30 years of living in the big city, my experience was that motorcycles were not a huge contributor to the din. You'd hear the occasional loud Harley or sportbike, maybe a group of them, but their contribution to the overall decibel fest was not all that huge.

It is the nature of city folk to ***** about their neighbors, whether it's the noise they make, the color of their house, or how they cut their lawn. It's a natural side effect of being packed in close together like sardines - sort of a cabin fever effect on a citywide scale.

I'm glad I moved to the country.

:)

Is this a decal that we can buy somewhere? I bet they'd be a hot seller here on the forum.
Yeah, but the handle of the member who made them up escapes me. If he's still around and willing, he'll probably post up eventually.

Or someone else, similarly talented, could provide. Just don't bug Skyway. He's busy enough....

We have a little event here called First Thursday, started by the Norton club here in the Twin Cities. All bikes now attend. Without fail it is the Harley-Davidson® riding crowd that seems to revel in pulling in the clutch and constantly revving the engine whilst coming and going from the event. I have personally witnessed one of their favorite pastimes and that is revving the crap out of their woeful noisemakers as they head through the Lowrey Hill Tunnel on I94. OOOHHHHH! We are supposed to be so impressed!!!! NOT!!! :asshat2:
