SoCal travel gurus's, some thoughts plse.

I am coming west on I-8. Thinking of taking SweenyPass Rd @ Ocotillo to Scissors Crossing, and on the Julian (78) for pie. Then 79/76 to Carlsbad (some business there).

Next day out of Carlsbad on 76/15/215 north to San Bernadino (Chaparral Motorsports), then 18/138 (Rim of the World Scenic Byway) to Palmdale. North on 14, then 58 into Bakersfield. Maybe the 99 north until it gets boring. Somewhere I need to go west to the 101.

Suggestions/improvements/etc welcome.

How bad will the the 215 N be on a weekday morning?

Many thx for your input

-Steve

The 215 shouldn't be bad if you don't leave Carlsbad so early that you get into commuter traffic heading west from Moreno Valley into the Los Angeles Basin. It won't be for very long, then you'll be going north and on a weekday, from there it should be fine, unless it's Thursday, which might get you into some Vegas bound traffic for a bit. All in all, you should be okay though. And you meant to say Angeles Crest Highway, not Rim of The World, right? ROTW goes toward Big Bear from Cajon Pass and ACH goes toward Palmdale. If it was me, I'd continue on 58 through Bakersfield right on across to the 101. If going north on 99 is a must, maybe try 198 over to the 101, OR on a weekday, take 99 up to Fresno and then 41 into Yosemite Valley, then exit the Valley on 120 and head over to the coast from there..
