I'll miss the 'ol lady, but it was time to find her a good home and it looks like I found an avid BMW lover to buy her who has owned two bikes of the same era. Phew...not some stupid kid :D :D :D

OJ - I respect you -- You too know the value of old bikes that just work... and work very well even past their prime.. I too am happy that some 'kid' doesn't ruin 20, 30+ years of a great bike in short order. I've seen it happen too may times..

Like you, I admire old things that work well.. from the 80+ year old racer I see at EVERY Old Timers mx to most all Airhead beemers.

Sure, the Airheads are not the fastest, or newest, but all in all great bikes... Long after all my other 'greatest' bikes have died or been sold, my old /2's still KICK start EVERY time, and my newer Airhead (21 years old)... is my daily ride at over 100 miles/day. Did I mention I can adjust my own valves in less than 30 minutes?

I have ordered an 06 FJR, and know I will love it.. but for me, TIME is is the criteria... I wonder if my 06 FJR will be running as strong as some of my current 'older' bikes 20+ years from now..... or if after 5 years parts won't be available, dealer support non-existant, etc etc...

I wonder if the FJ will qualify as a 'keeper' 10, 15 years from now or just be another Japanese 'throw-away' bike. I don't say this lightly.. every bike in my stable has to meet my personal muster of time & functionality.

It seems to me that FJR riders are of the type of avid fans that will keep the bikes running. Certainly not all of them, but some.

I would call it a "keeper". Hasn't the FJR been around since the 80's??? Just think, now they are liquid cooled. I'll wait another 20 and see what's happening.

About the R100RS:

From Rider magazine from March 1978:

"The power stability and handling are truly inspiring. The already simple and extended maintenance schedule is further reduced by the one peice cast wheels and eternally serviceable disc brakes. The quality is probably still the best overall available in motorcycles. If the startoshperic price (and insurance)of the R100RS can be afforded, those lucky riders will be treaed to one heck of a piece of motice technology."

Gee...everything but the price and this could be a conclusion to an FJR article. Our insurance is rather high too!

Nope. The FJs have been around for a long time. The FJRs were around in 2000 in Yerp. They (FJR) came to the USA in late 2002 (2003 model).

Not the same bike.
