It's awesome but damn! At least with the motorcycle, if I make a mistake and crash, there is some chance that I'll survive. One mistake with those guys and you're done.

never wanna do dangerous stuff without a motor...no hangliding, base jumping (at least the airplane has a motor), snow skiing

I have some pics around from my 20's when on a Church Mission trip to Grenoble France, I was bored with pouring concrete and had a weekend off.

Some took the train to Switzerland, and 3 guys and me decided to spend the night next to a lake in the Alps.

Well, adreniline junky moi decided to climb a 300' waterfall in my shorts and Nike's as a free climb. The pics are spectacular, but in hindsight idiotic considering any injury, help of any kind was 2 days away.

No communications device, only a buddys all day hike out and me hyperthermic where I layed over night in below freezing temps. And any kind of real fall would be really really bad if not the end.

And then there was racing my '67 Cougar on city streets...

Having done some very ***** climbing back in the day in the Rockies, I was famous for the slowest climbs on record, for the easiest stuff around.

My nuts ache when I consider the speed of him placing his holds with so much exposure. Scary...

Yep, one and done. Period. And it doesn't even need to be a big mistake either...just a slight loss of focus...

Unlike many sports where focus is required in short bursts spaced with periods of look around and rest. I suppose much like Indy 500 racing and the like, need to stay in the game ALL the time!

That is amazing. Did he climb back down, or does the Hielo with the camera give rides? What's amazing is that he did that climb in 2 hours 47 minutes. That 2hr47m of intense focus and balls-out physical push. Riding motorcycles is pretty easy, but I bet the chances of dying in a car crash on the way to Dairy Queen are still higher than dying while doing that.

I've always wondered about that. Most of that was shot from a helo but there was one place where the guy was climbing up a chimney of sorts and the shot was steady from above. How did the camera man get there first? Dropped from the helo? With 40 pounds of camera gear plus climbing equipment?

Sort of like some of the shots in "dirty jobs" and whatnot.

"Yea, just climb in there first and cram your *** into that little hole so you can get me on the "action entry shot""

I remembeed another one. These guys make the climber look like a Sunday hike. There's a better one out there but I can't find it, one of those "cudos to the camera man" shots because he's flying right behind the guy. A couple of years old by now

If you get National Geographic, check out the newest one--mine came this week. Tells about the 23-y.o. kid that "free-soloed" the face of Half Dome in Yosemite. First time it's ever been done. 2 hrs., 50 minutes. That's climing with no gear, no ropes, no pitons, no nothing but a bottle of water and some chalk for your hands. And shoes, I suppose. Alone. Jeeeez. (AND he's from Sacramento.)
