Topic title kind of speaks for itself. Bought used 05 and right side gas tank panel (small panel belowt tank) has it's 4 mm allen large-head bolt but it does not tighen as the female rubber insert just spins. The otherside is just flat missing.

Is the only place to get some new ones is Yammi Mammi ? (dealership) As the panels is not going anywhere I don't think with the seat on especially, but of course need to get some. Any direction on this appreciated.

I pulled tank today and did the throttle spring load mod and kind of getting to know my bike.

The rubber insert is called a "Well Nut" and most hardware stores will have them in metric and SAE sizes. Take the bolt in and find the size you need that fits in the hole for the sheet metal.

Worth noting is that you sometimes need to apply pressure to the panel to hold the rubber well nut in place while you thread the bolt into it. The rubber has a brass insert. Sometimes they do tear off, but sometimes they just need a little help to hold them still while you start the bolt in the threads.

it always cracks me up when I need a bolt or screw or some doo-hickey that Yammi charges 6 dollars for that I can get at the Lowe's for 17 cents each

They are forced to deal with the accounting system that's in place. I have friends who work in other industries and they marvel at the internal mark-up or profit margin charged from department to department.

The same issue arises with them when they know they can go to the local NAPA store and buy a seal or O-ring for a few cents.

We are fortunate to have the resource of this forum so those of us who do our own work can be directed to other resources for common pieces.

Oh, and I forgot about this place..

LOVE this site.. you can order just one item if you like.

got some replacement bolts for my FZR in stainless for a couple bucks. Would'a been a fortune had I gone to the dealer or OEM parts site.
