Any of you Indiana riders have any hotel recommendations (chain or otherwise) down in that area between

I-64 & the Ohio River?

If the weather is dry THIS Saturday & Sunday, griff & I are going to do a trip down there & stay Saturday night.

Looking for hotel recommendations...

Will be an end of season ride for me most likely. About 450 miles each day it looks like.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You kids going down 65 or US 63??? If you happen to be coming down 63 to 41, or 1 through ILL... depending, I may be out test riding my AE's new and improved Audiovox cruise control. Perhaps I could hook up wit'cha part of the way?

Don't know anything down in Evansville other than the Executive Inn. Me? I just stay at Red Roofs or Super 8. Cheap and easy, that's me.

So far supposed to be partly cloudy and dry, mid 40's around these parts over the weekend. Heck. Louisville and south might be 10 warmer.

Thanks for the hotel advice Rocket...I guess I will google the hotel sites, but is there much in the way of hotels on I-64 between Evansville & Louisville?

We'll be doing US routes & state routes -hopefully ending down between I-64 & the Ohio end of the day Saturday. Obviously, getting dark earlier these days so getting 450 miles in during daylight will be a challenge - but I'm up to it :p .

I will post a tentative general route tonight when I have access to the S&T files. The route will be open to alterations as we progress during the day's riding.

If you're in the area, I stayed at the Bill Monroe campground at Beanblossum, IN. They have cabins that are fairly nice for non-campers, heated & cooled, showers, beds, kitchens, ect. Several hundred R.V. slots. Lot of craft/art type stuff in town (like Silver Dollar City in the '60s).

Thanks James. I've been through Beanblossum and have been there. I have aspired to play fiddle in a bluegrass band in the past - so I am definitely aware of the place. We'll be going past the place on Sunday, however we'll be way down farther south on Saturday night - not too far from the Ohio River...

@Rocket:

If the trip goes on as planned this Saturday and Sunday, it should go something like this as a basic route:

Rocket: We may be down east of the Terre Haute area around 10am or 11am, so if you really want to meet up, I can firm things up with griff and get more specific in the coming days...

First, the overview map

Then some larger scale maps that show route numbers...from the north end to the south end of trip...

I once spent some time in Muncie IN. Same area?

Can't remember much about the hotel, but I do remember that the original Texas Road House restaurant is there. They had cold beer, awesome steaks and cute blonde waitresses all over the place!

My colon had never seen so much meat!

Muncie is north and east of Indianapolis. I do agree about the Texas Road House restaurants if it is the same one I am thinking of...good steaks and beer. I believe we had some at the West Virginia Ramble this June. yummmm...

You could try the Overlook Restaurant and Leavenworth Inn. To make a reservation call (812) 739-4264. They're on Eastern Time. Great food and the restaurant and Inn look over the Ohio. It's beautiful. Or there is the a nice Hotel in Santa Claus. If you want something closer to E'ville let me know.

If you wanted to modify the bottom of your route a bit, you could go farther east and follow the river on the Indiana side and stay at the Caesars Casino. $169 on the weekends is a little steep for me, but it looks pretty cool. Riding out in the middle of no-where, then all of a sudden CAESARS pops up. Kind of impressive.

I like your route. We'll see how it goes. If I feel whacky, I might run down and do part of it the opposite direction and see if I can catch you guys flying by.

Have a great ride!

@fit2Btied:

What city are these restaurants in?

After looking at our route again, I see some chain hotels near Corydon on IN 135...anything on the interstate west of there?

@Rocket: Remember, this is a 2day route...so from southern Indiana to Brown County will be on Sunday.

Looks like a great ride you've outlined, wheaton. Sorry I can't help you with lodging south of I-64 -- but, I have stayed in Loogootee (just west of Shoals on your route -- and that great part of US 150), an independent motel north of town up on a hill. And, have stayed in a cottage in Story (your route just passes by Story in Brown County). In fact, if it's not too late in the season? Story can be a memorable place, itself.

A couple notes about that part of the country: If you can manage it?, a ride through Shades State Park (south of I-74, north of Waveland) has always been a great little ride. And when you pass through Greencastle and round the couthouse square -- look on the southwest corner for the WWII German V-1 buzz-bomb mounted on a pedestal there. Good little restaurant just up the road, 231, (still in town) too. Down by Paoli/French Lick, on 150, there's a liquor store named "French Licker"...... :p

Enjoy the ride -- hope the weather cooperates.

Thanks for the recommendations...I've been to and past most of the places you've mentioned. I'll have to stop at some of these places in the future...

Hey I been past that place... he's right not much else along the road as in built up and then that place. Very nice riding along the river.

@Rocket:

The 2 day trip for this weekend is cancelled. :( Weather forecasts changed yesterday to include chance of precip on Sunday. :angry2:

In these temperatures, the only chance for this trip was if no precip occurs...

Oh well may be later...most likely next year...which might include some roads in KY if I can sort out which are the good ones...

I just looked at the aviation prog charts for the weekend, and it looks like it should be fine. I think the only thing you should be concerned about it lake effect snow SW corner of L. M., and heck, you can circumvent that easy enough, can't you?

COME ON DOWN!!!!!
