Monday morning the alarm went off at 5:30am and by 5:52am I was geared up and on my motorcycle heading out my driveway in the dark. Except today I was not heading to work...today I was heading to a much more peaceful location. Sometimes one just has to say "enough is enough" and take a break from the never-ending weekly routine of life, take a time out and go do something to recharge one's batteries. Today was one of those days for me.

I hadn't done a long day ride to the southern Appalachian mountains since late last fall and with Spring in full force, the sun shining, the temperatures in the upper 70's, trees & flowers blooming, I just couldn't wait any longer to go. I was riding solo and just doing my own thing & I could be as selfish as I wanted to be. I just simply wanted to ride, to smell the air, see the sights, lean in the curves and take a few pictures along the way. All in all I rode for 14 hours and about 600 miles before getting home at dusk just after 8pm. It was a full day and it was just what the doctor ordered!

My ride went something like this...

Just got back to Indiana last weekend after a week in FLA with the family on spring break. Though it was so nice to get to some warm weather (we had 10" of snow the 6 days earlier) what sucked was all I could do was sit there and watch all the bikes go buy everyday. You are so lucky to live where you do. Those are, as usual, fantastic pictures. Your pics and videos are the next best thing to actually riding, keep 'em coming!

I'm looking at these from my desk, in my office, at my job....and hating you more with each passing moment. Love the pics. May even steal one as a wallpaper just to keep my sanity. Thanks for posting and ride safe.

G/R - we should share some miles together one day. We both agree on the perfect ride. Although 600 of those miles in a day is ripping it quite a bit. I don't know if I could keep up with ya, but I'd sure like to try.

Great report.

I always see shots like this and wonder how folks manage to get them. I see a nice view like this and my brain thinks "Wow, that'd be a nice picture" which is quickly overridden by my right wrist saying "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Anybody ever tell you that you appear to be pretty handy with a camera? Eating a sandwich at my desk in an office with no windows when I saw these. Wish I could get back to Georgia and request your services as a tour guide. Thanks for sharing those pics!

BTW, Mr. Laam is building me a seat, thx for the tip.

I have to ride Georgia someday...

I always love the pictures you take of waterfalls and that building reflecting in the still water - that was divine!!

That happens to me as well. Sometimes I ride the rollar coaster, turn around an ride it back, and then take the picture. Sometimes (rarely), the left side of my brain gets a chance and I see the picture framed through my helmet.

Perhaps a little more....this really interest me.

To me, the difference between a good photographer and a great one is walking the fine line between the technical ability (light settings, etc.) and the artistic ability (framing the shot). After that, it's just a matter of buying the best piece of glass you can afford. G/R and Tyler (and others here) have those abilities - I am very envious.

To me, the ultimate ride report is one in which the pictures tell a thousand words. If the right side of my brain would get out of the way for just a moment, and allow me to get out of the perpetual box that I live in, I could do a lot better. Until then, if at first you don't succeed.....
