Well. its starting to get chilly here in Wheaton, so if Tom Skilling says it's going to be 60 degrees and sunny on a Saturday, best get the bike out and get 'er done.

I travelled to the area covered by the CFO (SW WI) this past summer. I took off this morning about 6:30am with the temps in the upper 20's -burrrrr! Pretty chilly with no heated gear - but all was still good - really anticipating a good day.

If any Illinois, Wisconsin riders are keeping score with their maps...I superslabbed from the Chicago area (took I90 west bound) until just south of the Wisconsin border. I cut over on some local roads to WI 81 westbound.

I took WI 81 wb to just west of Monroe, WI where I took cnty rd J northbound.

Fairly good pavement. Good scenery, rollercoasters and sweepers. Just repeat that last statement for the rest of the day except the Oooh factor goes up for every mile you go north and west from there...

cnty rd J north to WI 39 westbound (west of New Glarus, WI),

WI 39 wb to WI 191 wb at Hollandale. Took that into Dodgeville, WI. Roughly 170 miles(about 80 miles of WI scenic roads) and about 3hours fifteen minutes from Wheaton, IL. Stopped for an eggs and pancakes breakfast and to warmup.

I then did a roughly 200 mile loop from Dodgeville and back to Dodgeville through GREAT roads, Amish country, ridge roads for scenery...ahhhh

This area is definitely worth a day trip or weekend. 60 degrees is FAR more pleasant than 95 degrees.

I used the following roads...

WI 23 north to cnty road G just north of US 14.

Took cnty rd G north past WI 58 to cnty rd EE wb.

You can continue cnty rd EE wb to cnty rd V wb.

cnty rd V takes you to cnty rd P.

I took cnty rd P wb as far as WI 27 near Westby.

WI 27 south to WI 171 at Mt. Sterling.

Took WI 171 eastbound past apple orchards to US 14 near Boaz, WI.

I took US 14 eastbound to WI 130 southbound at Lone Rock, WI.

WI 130 ends at WI 23 about 6 miles north of Dodgeville, WI.

Like I said - the loop is about 200 miles and took me 5 1/2 hours with a picnic break and bathroom break. I also don't tend to rocket through the cnty roads like most others on this forum - though I will tend to cruise at about 70 in a 55.

I returned home from Dodgeville, WI pretty much the way I came.

Therefore, I had a good 540 mile day today with about 360 of those miles being nice (superslabs don't count).

It felt good to have a good day like this (with no major "pucker" moments) on the bike after having a real scare (cager trying to kill me) and get off on the way to the OHIO Fall Ramble.

Sorry for no pictures...I'm sure it is a real dull read. However, It may give someone in the area an idea for a trip later this year or early next.

Many of the roads in this area are good obviously - not just the roads I took.

So get out there and get 'er done!

Not a dull read at all wheaton  Glad you had a good ride. I managed to do a short 200 miles yesterday. Temps in the low 60's. The leaves are a droppin though... the riding season is about over here in MI. :(

wheatonFJR,

Sounds like fun. I had not made it back down there this summer wish I would of though. Not a bad road in that area.

Did you take pics? If you did I can host them again, just let me know.

Dana

@opt8:

No didn't bring the camera with me.

I did think of you at that curve on 171. I was going eastbound - uphill this time around.

Thanks to you for mentioning cnty rd P last summer, and Brewtown for showing me 171 at last November's ride.

My wife heard my ride report and is looking forward to visiting the area next year with me.

That's all for now. Gotta get ready to take my youngest girl out trick 'o treating. Need to do this...this may be the last year before it is uncool to be with Dad.
