Ever since the space program was developed, I've been wanting to see a launch. I had it all planned out when the original launch date of the final flight of the Endeavor was set for April 19. I was going to meet up with a BMW friend in NC, following the Cape Fear 1000 rally, and we were going to ride down to Titusville to view the launch. The launch has since been pushed back to APR 29. Friend can't make it down again.

Is anyone in the Northeast, Mid Atlantic states, Eastern Canada, etc, interested in riding down? I'd like to have a flexible schedule in case the flight is pushed back again for a couple of days. This is the last flight of the Endeavor and it may be the last shuttle flight, period. The last one is scheduled for late September and if it gets pushed back in to October, it will likely be scrubbed because it will be into NASA's next fiscal year and there is no funding for a launch next year. Admins, if there is a better place to post this........

Sounds like a cool ride, Charlie. But many (most?) of us have to work to fund our riding habit - and other stuff

That said....make sure you get your a** back in time for the Clam Chowdah run ! :D

I scheduled a trip down to see a launch a few years ago and went through the re-schedule shuffle. I missed it by one day! I'm out this time as I'm doing a CC in the same time frame. Good luck and see you at the Chowda run.

I have seen two launches and the last one was with Christa McAuliffe. A sad day and a great loss of life.

On my way to FL next week for Disneyworld with the kids and we were desperate to see the Shuttle launch. Like you, I've always wanted to see one, considering the pinnacle of human accomplishment, second only to landing on the moon.

But alas, despite the temptation to ride down with you for it, I can't make the 29th. Sigh. Pretty likely I'm never going to get to see one.

Have a great ride and post photos!

As Maynard G. Crebs would say...."WORK?!?!?!" Sorry about that. I know how it can get in the way of riding. Now that I've paid my dues, time is something I have a lot of. Thanks for the replies. Anyone else thinking of going? Lots of good riding between here and there.

Charlie, what's your departure estimation? I need to hit Jacksonville for job searching and family visit but heading out next week may not be do-able. Tempting, though. Wanted to do a SS1000 down there but haven't got the Heli yet for the wrists. Dan

Dan,

The launch is currently scheduled for about 3:45 on the afternoon APR 29. I think it would make sense to leave on the 26th so as not to kill ourselves. Could be lots of side trips along the way. If it gets pushed back again, it will be for a minimum of 2 days.
