Interesting article in the AM news. Motorcyclist cited for 180mph on I-5 in southern oregon. Police say they arrested the biker after giving up the chase twice for safety reasons. The 23 year old man stated he had done better than 180MPH on interstate 5 and was only caught after his bike slid out when the pavement turned to gravel. Funny thing is the bike is identified as a Suzuki R650. What am I missing here. Guy probably could not keep his mouth shut and the officers took him at his word when writing him up for speed. I would have figured a GX1300. Spring is coming, weatherman says little chance of snow in Puget sound this winter.

There is a thread about this on PNWRiders.com and someone who knows the rider said it was a CBR1000RR and the 180 mph is what he was bragging about after he was caught.

I have heard this many times - cops giving up chase due to safety concerns. So much for "you can't outrun the long arm of the law."

Wow how can one just brag about this stuff! I've got me a Gixxer 750, she is a pure bred 170+ mph bike....but

1. Even if it itches, I ain't going to scratch on I5, at the Ridge or PNW Raceway yes...

2. If a Black 'n White would stop me, I'd give him everything but not a brag how fast I was..... How silly that boy is

It wasn't wreckless driving, he did in fact wreck on the gravel :lol:

At least in NY state there is misdemeanor reckless endangerment then there is felonious reckless endangerment. If the stop is for felonious endangerment you go to jail, even if it is Thanksgiving. DAMHIK. At the time the dividing line was 100 mph. When they stuff you into the cruiser they slam you in and then tell you to duck. As your eyes are full of stars and the ears are ringing you lean over and say, "What did you say?". Then they slam the door closed leaving your head feeling like a fly on a windshield as the door hits you.

Some agencys do not pursue bikes at extreme speeds for the riders safety. This guy was written for reckless driving, reckless endangerment and trying to flee. Once in this state a rider "eluded" from the East side all the way home to Tacoma where he was arrested in his garage, troops had a plane tail him.

There was a fatal accident on the DC beltway a couple years back, I believe, that involed an LEO and an innocent car while the LEO was chasing a biker at high speed. So they tend to back off around here.

Shades of the "Orange Bandit" of SoCal back in the mid seventies. Some crazy on a gp bike buzzing 405 at a buck 70+ for a couple months. He got hammered too.

The cops reported it as a Suzuki R650; it's quite a stretch from there to a Honda CBR1000. Getting make or model wrong is one thing; both would be unlikely.

In any case, bragging about it? Who does that little twit think he's impressing?

I think it was last year that there was some guy heading into Seattle from Everett, radar clocked at over 150, who the cops gave up chasing, and the guy made it home safe & sound. A little while later there was a knock on his door; "Meet the boys in blue!" The cops may not be allowed to chase them at that speed, but the dumb **** must have never heard of helicopters. . . Really glad that he didn't kill anybody, including himself!
