Speeding ticket follow up- Thank the Lord

I have a new best friend... and he's a judge in Barstow.

Some of you may remember that I was cited for 110 mph on the way to NAFO. Threw myself on the mercy of the judge yesterday with sincere honesty and he was nice enough to kick it down considerably to "exeeding 70".

Hey, congrats. I was afraid that one might not end well. This must be a huge relief.

I must say, the way you told that story at NAFO had me laughing really hard. You really told it well. Nice to meet you there, too.

About a year ago, on my way to work I blasted past a cop in traffic. Didn't even see him. I was going about 90. He hits the lights and stops me. He walks up and asks, in sort of a disappointed way, "didn't you see me?", I said "No." He asked why I was going so fast, I said "I'm late." Then he goes, "Well, there's nothing going on here that a $200 ticket would cure so just keep your speed down."

I felt like I won the lottery. That cop doesn't know it but that warning was enough to keep me from speeding. Now I think of the streets as the pits. There's a speed limit and you can't exceed it (by more than 5mph) but you definitely don't want to go under it.

I always think of the funny story where the kid speeds by a cop, gets pulled over and the cop says, "I've been waitin' for you all day!" and the kid says, "Well, I got here as fast as I could." The cop let him go and thanked him for the laugh.

Highly edjamacated civil engineers are paid extraordinary sums on money to calculate a safe and prudent speed any given section of public roadway, and here you are just tossing aside their obviously correct conclusions like it was a used condom.

It behooves us all to blindly follow the posted speed limit regardless of prevailing circumstances.

I got pulled over once on my 06GSXR1K doing 96 mph by a CHP. (Thank God it wasn't the time I was really, really stupid and hit 175mph on a deserted road. Yikes!)

Anyway, the guy asked my why I was speeding and I simply told him that there is no excuse for it, and I was just being an idiot.

He cracked up, thanked me for my honesty, told me it's my lucky day because he is picking up the exact same bike as mine in a couple of days, and let me go!

Soon after I got rid of that insane little bike.

Was wondering if you were on the 15 Malve? I live about 30- 45 minutes south of there. I have found myself living with some of the anxiety you must of felt pre trial. I have gone ticketless for awhile until this past August, where I recieved 2 performance awards in two weeks. The citations are not unlike yours, I really had questioned my purchase of the K8 I got them on. Although I have decided to keep it, I must tell myself, "restraint, restraint, restraint." I have hired an attorney for these and in the meantime, I'll be shitting bricks. Congrats on the victory of sorts Malve.

One of the primary reasons the 2005 YZF-R1 was traded for the Hayabusa last Fall (besides financial reasons) was my apparent inability to exercise even a minuscule amount of discipline while riding one of the hottest sportbikes on the market today.

Which seems like a specious argument, since the bike it was traded for is the fastest stock bike on the planet. :blink:

Yet, for whatever reason, I am completely disciplined while riding the Hayabusa (um... okay, maybe not in Nevada). This just wasn't the case on the R1..... hell, I've never even been stopped for a warning while on the Hayabusa; on the R1, I was on the side of the road collecting my first citation in less than 24 hours after taking it off the showroom floor. :blink: :blink: :blink: :blink: :blink:

It was hard to behave on that bike.... and it's easy to see why:

I see we have the same tastes which I'm not sure is a real good thing for either of us!

Yep, the new Hayabusa is on the short list. Kind of like the GSXR - just one of those bikes that I just had/have to get out of my system. With my screwed up neck problems, risers will be the first mod.

Maybe ape hangers!

Also - thanks a million for your work with this and other FJR sites. I just put the hand guards on this weekend and damn if they don't look like they came with the bike.

If we ever catch up, the first one's on me!

Speaking of on-line traffic schools, I just completed one and mailed the certificate to my new BFFs at the Humbolt County, CA Superior Court.

And, yes, that was on my 08FJR which WAS SUPPOSED TO SLOWER/SANER than my 06GSXR1K.

Guess I should have read the fine print when I joined this board!

Dale; The difference might be the heritage. The R is a curve eating, straight shortening race bike while the 'busa...not so much. The R practically requires you to be a hooligan. :yahoo:
