Thank you everybody for the well wishes. FJamR, yes did in fact receive that award on the 15. Certainly is tough to conform on that boring stretch.

I rode the back way from San Diego to Palm Springs this morning to meet a family member for breakfast. I left at 6:00 am and the roads were EMPTY, cold at elevation... but empty. During a few brief portions of the day, it became apparant that I either have a bad short term memory or I'm not a very good learner, but Damn that bike REALLY makes it hard to drive it like a Vespa.

Was wondering if you were on the 15 Malve? I live about 30- 45 minutes south of there. I have found myself living with some of the anxiety you must of felt pre trial. I have gone ticketless for awhile until this past August, where I recieved 2 performance awards in two weeks. The citations are not unlike yours, I really had questioned my purchase of the K8 I got them on. Although I have decided to keep it, I must tell myself, "restraint, restraint, restraint." I have hired an attorney for these and in the meantime, I'll be shitting bricks. Congrats on the victory of sorts Malve.

I just heard back from my attorney on my performance awards. Both were for doing over a buck and some change. First one was dismissed. The second was reduced, no suspension and a far lesser fine. I think I'm going to buy some lottery tickets this week!!!!

I like the way they do it here in Butte:

Picked up Sunday doing 51 in a 35 (very quiet urban thoroughfare, no one out at all, but...I AM guilty). The cops smiles, apologizes, says, instead of 51, he'll write me for 48 which will save me $40 and two points. I cannot (for the first time ever!) produce proof of liability. He writes me for that then says, just get the document and show it to the judge and he'll dismiss. Thanks! says I.

I go to see the judge on Wednesday. It's not his regular court hours. He doesn't care. He says come on in and sit down. We BS a little about this and that, he dismisses the charge of no proof of liability insurance, ponders the other ticket, says (without any prompting from me), I'll reduce this to 45 mph in a 35; that will save you $20. You owe me $60. If you want, you can go to a $75 school on Saturday - 2.5 hours, then no points. Since my MVR is clean, I paid my money and was done.

They're not out to screw you or rape your wallet; just want you to slow down and watch that speed limit! I'm doing so. I think that's good, reasonable law enforcement.

Agreed - 95% of the time, that's exactly what they are trying to do. It's just the other 5% that get all the complaints and makes it seem much worse than it probably is.

several years back I got pulled over for 103 in a 55 on my virago 1100. the officer was not a jerk he told me it took him 5 miles to catch up to me. I explained it was the first time I had the bike out for the season, had just got it inspected and was acting like an irresponsible child. he agreed with everything and told me he also rode and that he understood. told me to knock it off and let me go scott free. THANK YOU SIR!!!

I can sympathize the performance award... I used to live in Vegas and visit folks in So. Cal. quite a bit. I-15 practically begs for supra-legal speeds. (Since I lived in Vegas, I was always going the opposite direction of the tourists/visitors on long weekends, which seemed to keep the cops all on the other side of the freeway.) Never got an award, but I don't know how I avoided it.... :blink:

got stopped by levee police officer doing 75 on the twisties in a 35; yikes

1am, well lit street along the lake, manic moment, etc

he first asked where I was going and that he saw me going east through the chicane. had to jump in his unit as I pasted the station going west.

noticed as soon as I saw his unit and lights, I stopped and patiently waited for him to stop and walk up to me

told him I was kinda bored and the bike was pretty new ('82 Suzy GS550E). He said he was a Suzy GS1000 or GS1100? rider and knows the temptation to whack the throttle open, but he's worked some terrible and fatal bike accidents and I have to be smart and slow down. I nodded sheepishly, apologized, and thanked him for the wisdom. He walked away and I rode away scott free. I always remembered that evening and am motivated to never fool around in a metropolitan area. It's foolish.

Why do I find it so interesting that all the cop bashers aren't commenting on this thread? Just goes to prove that ATTITUDE plays a HUGE part in how you are treated....and I'm not talking about the cops attitude. 40 over the speed limit; 90 past a cop; 103 in a 55; 96 past a CHP; a judge reduces a ticket even more.... 99% of the COPS are out there doing an awesome, difficult, and vastly unappreciated job...they really are out there to keep EVERYONE safe....they are just like you and me....men and women with families....but different from you in that they are willing to die for you...Its refreshing to read threads such as these, but someone will bitch about getting a ticket for going 70 in a 55......

Normaly highway patrol professional and in general pretty good. County Mounties also in general pretty good. Local cops could not make the grade for the other two and have an attitude.
