Talking about recalls, Yamaha did the front brake light switch on mine at the same time as the 2nd gear. Have you had yours done yet?

In case you're unaware, the front brake light switch can stay on. If it does, your brake light is permanently on and the Cruise Control won't engage.

I had different symptoms. The brake light was not on all the time and worked as it should. I'd be riding along and the cruise control would drop out and I couldn't resume it unless I did an ignition key cycle.

I replaced the switch myself, took about an hr.

If it's a recall, then a dealer should do it under the recall; regardless of the current owner.
1- that's assuming of course you'd want a dealership yahoo working on your bike. No thanks.

2- here's how it went:

me: have a recall.
D: lemme check. Yep, you do.
me: can you do it?
D: bring the bike in. We'll check it out & order the part.
me: great! You'll let me know when to bring it back for the work?
D: oh no! If it's a recall you have to leave it here.
me: For how long?
D: usually takes about 3 weeks to get the part. Then we'll schedule the work. Maybe a month total.
me: no thanks.

I ordered the part, it was on my doorstep the next evening. Replaced it myself. So it was an hr of my time + $92 vs. leaving the bike at the dealership for a month. Not a tough choice.

You're assuming all dealership are yahoos...and they're not. Here's how it went for me when I was in to put a set of tires on rims I brought:

Me: Can you check on front brake switch recall on my FJR? Here's the VIN.
Dealer: Yeah, it's under recall. We'll have the part in next week. Let's schedule you for the week after that...should take about an hour.
Me: Great!

And it was replaced without fuss. I could have done it myself too, but preferred it being marked as completed in the database, and not paying out of pocket unnecessarily.

I also made repairs to my 2014 front brake switch. ordered the part and installed. problem fixed. no fuss, no wait times and no down time.

I had the Yahoo. After disassembling and bringing in the switch I was told that was not an option they had to do the work. Went home reassembled and had an appointment for the next morning, after 3 hrs the shop manager comes out and says my driving light switch was damaged and had to order another one & the mechanic was a 15 yr 5 Star Yamaha mechanic. They will never touch my bike again. The explanation was accidents happen. The dealership paid me shop rate to put the new switch in for wasting my time, an acceptable compromise but not enough to allow my bike to be worked on again.

My dealer ordered the switch for me, gave it to me and said if I need to replace then just replace it. They know I like to work on my own stuff. So far haven't needed it but I have it if I do.

That's the deal I tried to get but they would not budge saying if they order the part they HAVE to do the job.
