This pic is not mine. I just found the pic online by googling FJR 1300 Speedometer. It's a screenshot from this YouTube Vid. I would NEVER abuse my bike like that, let alone exceed the speed limit.

Yeah baby, that's the wat ta ride one of these thangs.

Early on in my FJR ownership days, trying to catch up to my buddies on an interstate two-lane on-ramp, I kinda cranked it in 3rd to pass some slow moving trucks. Shocked this bike could accelerate that fast after reaching 6 grand...... yeah, my speedo said 180 that day. Metric that is..........

Wheelie aside, I don't see this as abuse on the motorcycle. The shifts were not abusive to the clutch or the transmission, AFAIK. The redline was never exceeded.

I got away from the "high revs kill motors" attitude when I started buying outboard motors. These puppies - especially the smaller ones, run at or very close to their redline 100% of the time. At least for 2-stroke boat motors, I have found that quite frankly, the harder one runs them, the longer they last. Carbon is the death of any outboard motor. Carbon deposits from trying to burn oil. When carbon hardens, it is hard. Harder than the steel or aluminum in the motor. In a game of friction, the hardest part always wins. The hotter you can get the combustion chamber and the crankcase, the easier it is to burn the oil. The faster you spin that crankshaft, the hotter the combustion chamber. Even with my more modern boat today - I still run that puppy WFO for a few miles just before the landing.

The FJR's engine is designed to run at those speeds. It will happily do so indefinitely. I don't care for the prolonged buzz on my hands or feet, though.

Now OTOH - Dangerous? 10-4. I do enjoy an occasional run up the gears to say 100-ish for a split instant. But 140+ mph on any road for prolonged periods is asking for it. Squid is as squid does.

I like that it's titled "Top Speed Run" then comments that it wasn't. Why not just call it a "speed run" then?

He wasn't the gentlest when he planted the front back down. I wonder how many of those before the seals need replacing. That was more like how I land one instead of those experts I see on Youtube do.

Say, did you fellers know that my FJR can exceed 120 mph in just 1320 feet? And, it can do that in 11 seconds or less. Legally. Been doing that for years too.

While traveling from Phoenix to points south of Tucson I was traveling pretty steady between 7k and 9k rpm in 5th gear most of the way. At one point there was a yellow pick-up upside down beside the road and 5-6 unmoving bodies scattered down the road, across a ditch and up the embankment to the PU. There were a large number of cruisers just arriving on the scene so I let the rpms drop back to about 4k to get past the unfortunate event. As the rpms were starting back north of 5k a bright red Corvette popped out of the cars behind me and started closing on me so I did the only proper thing and let the rpms climb more quickly. By 8k rpm a little alarm started going off in my head so I let the rpms fall a bit and let the Corvette go by. As it went past I noticed it had a State Representative license plate. Hmm, so I paced this good citizen for nearly an hour right around 9k rpm plus a few more at times (but never hit the rev limiter). Finally we arrived at a road block where they were checking vehicles for illegal immigrants, the Representative in the Corvette was waved through but they pulled me over and inspected my FJR. Sometimes stupidity can hit dazzling depths. Anyhoo, I lost the Corvette after that. I got stopped 3 more times at road blocks that day. The FJR did just fine, no oil used, no elevated operating temps and no engine noises. The following day it still ran swell while riding north to Sedona with BeemerDons and Skooter. The day after that it still ran well following Skooter out of Jerome on Rt 89A and on to Prescott. I will say though, the tires weren't fairing so well.

What? Did they suspect you were hiding an illegal immigrant or three in the panniers?

I have but one job to do, and by gwad, I'm gonna do it

At the Arivaca stop I passed the sniff test. Border Patrol Doggie says I was not carrying any contraband such as drugs or weapons. They determined where I came from, where I was going to and what I was doing at the end points of my trip. They did not ask if I had been making a sham of motor vehicle laws in between those two points

If it had been CA they would have shaken me down for fruits and vegetables too. BTDT.

State Rep on the cellphone:

"There's a crazy guy on a motorcycle chasing me! I can't outrun him! Help!"

The reason I chose to stay and run with this nut guy was the evil, lets play, look he gave me when I let him by. He knew I let him go by. In fifth gear up to 6k rpm the FJR is the dominate machine, as the rpms climb the Corvette becomes close to equal. Damn aerodynamics

The world need at least a few long, straight, open roads to balance out the ones like Rt 89A.

I guess you guys make a good point. I did notice several roads in Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona that would be safe for constant triple digit speeds. Maybe I will try some more of those this year.

My comment was intended as sarcasm (about abusing the bike). I'd venture that my bike has lived as big a percentage of its 70K miles at elevated speeds as most any out there on the road. Getting out of town starts with the 2 lane divided interstate in this pic that has very little traffic and an 80 mph limit. I'm usually above the ton for a while within the first 10 minutes of any ride lol...

Places in AZ where the high speed wind will try to peel the rider off the bike.

Just hope you don't make bacon along the way.
