I remember watching Stoner when he was 15, a race got stopped at Cadwell Park when he crashed heavily on a 125. He is very underated I think and will do well. I still think that without the obvious power advantage that the Ducati had he would not have been near Rossi.
Re Rossi being gay, I don't care iether, its just that he makes so many statements in his approach. His helmet changes so often and there is always some deep meaning to the design, all this crap about the fox and the rabbit, and he avoids the obvious one that stands out (to British fans more and more) that there has never been a girl on his arm, nor mentioned in his book. For a guy in his position surely he would have a vast choice of top babes. I know, I know, it has nothing to do with racing...or me for that matter, its just as I say, he likes to shout about certain things....thats what makes him irritating.
I am not by any means decrying the guys talent, it will be a long long time before we see the like again.
I am sure that he and Jerry Burgess will 'evolve' the bike as they always do. He would have won last year if it were down to skill alone and luck had no part to play.
Re the tyres, maybe it just proves it is not as critical as is made out, maybe Rossi had another 10 laps left in his, maybe the 2 bikes/riding styles rquired different compounds?
Nicky/Danni There is a significant weight difference between the 2 which will be more critical on the 800's, having said that, Rossi is not far behind Hayden on weight......but Rossi is Rossi, he rides round anything!!
Hayden 152 lbs
Pedrosa 112 lbs
Stoner 128 lbs
Rossi 148 lbs
