It appears that the situation looks fairly bleak....
A guy on the Busa forums, who apparently has close contacts with Andrew, reported the following today:

I did receive an update today. It appears there is a sliver of hope but realistically, Andrew will most likely remain a paraplegic for the remainder of his life. From what I hear, the doctors say it is possible he may get some feeling in his lower extremities but not very likely.
:( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Not the news we were hoping/praying for.....
Damn... I was hoping Jill's scenario would turn out instead. Thanks for the update.

WC, any chance you might know of a link or some sort of address to pass along our well wishes/support for Andrew?
I will check on this... I seem, to recall reading that Sport Rider (or someone in Andrew's camp) was going to set something up.

Very disappointing update from the Busa forum. I saw a story on the news about a 35 year old swimmer that became a parapalegic from a diving accident. The doctors said she would never walk again. They showed footage of her walking and saying she will swim and run again. Pure determination and will is how she credits her improvement. Let's hope someone passes this recent story on to Andrew to keep his spirits up. He has my hopes and prayers for a full recovery.

While testing tires on Angeles Crest Highway north of Los Angeles, Sport Rider Senior Editor Andrew Trevitt was involved in an accident involving a car making an illegal U-turn. As a result, Andrew is in serious condition in the hospital, with numerous major injuries including fractures to his T3 and T4 vertebrae. Although he currently does not have feeling/movement in his lower body, it is too early to tell what the future will bring. Regardless, Andrew will be facing a lengthy rehabilitation.

Many have asked what they can do, and we greatly appreciate your concern. The family has asked that everyone please respect their privacy, and to not attempt to call or visit the hospital. Get well cards can be sent to the Sport Rider offices at 6420 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA, 90048, and they will be forwarded to the family. If you wish to send Andrew a note, you can do so at [email protected]. A fund will soon be set up to assist the Trevitt family; we will be announcing the details on that very soon.

Again, the outpouring of concern is greatly appreciated by all of us in this very difficult time.

Thanks,

Kent

I sent an email note to Andrew. I too have crashed on ACH but was lucky. I hope he returns home and to work fully recovered. My prayers are with him.

Hey guys,

I just saw this on another forum and thought I would share it because many here seem interested:

Troy..can you give us an update?

I saw him last weekend and he's doing surprisingly well considering his condition. He's in really good spirits and he already wants to get back to work...or at least he wants to get back in the office and chase me around in his wheelchair. haha. I think he's through with all his surgeries, so now it's just rest, recuperation and rehabilitation. He's still got a long way to go, but he isn't bitter about what happened. He realizes there's nothing he can do about it now, so he better make lemonade with the lemons he was given. His strength through this whole thing has really lifted the spirits of everyone around him (when it should be the other way around) and he genuinely appreciates the kind words everyone's been sending his way.

This is very sad news indeed. I, too, was hoping that the swelling was causing the lack of feeling. I'm simply at a loss for words.

Our thoughts are with you, Andrew... :(

[Edit] I just read Troy's comments...it's wonderful to see Andrew in such great spirits. [/Edit]

On the radical end of things.....
How many years in jail does the U-turner get?
Probably zero unfortunately.

I know we've all had a 1,000 close calls but I had one very similar to this. Nearly T-boned a woman trying to make a 3-point/U-turn IN A WHITE FORD F-350 on a cliff-side road that most of us would have a hard time doing in a Mini Cooper!

It was closer than it should have been partly because I momentarily froze in disbelief before I got on the brakes. I just couldn't believe there was suddenly this huge white wall in front of me when I had never seen one in this curve before.

With so many of these drivers, it's all about me, me, me and not much else.

:angry2:
