SPOT 3: they solved the battery options

I was online looking at the REI sale and found a new spot device is shipping, uses four batteries, specifically calls out that rechargeable batteries are supported, and includes a usb port for external power.

looks like the basic subscription was increased to $150 from the $99; but information maybe wrong as the official website didn't even have a link yet.

The extra cost is most likely because of the new features:

• Tracking options let you choose the capture rate that best suits your movement: 2.5-, 5-, 10-, 30- or 60-minute increments
• With Motion Activated Tracking, SPOT Gen3 knows when you’re moving and when you stop to make camp; it stops sending tracking info until you start moving again

$200 per year and the 2.5 minute option you mention is ANOTHER $100 on top. That's a bunch of gas.
