There was buy deal for a Spot3 and I thought this would serve my purpose due to camping in an area with no cell coverage.
Looking into and comparing to the DeLorme inReach SE I believe the later would be a better deal for me more usable text messaging and costs slightly higher but out weigh the Spot3. It can be used with a smart phone to create the text message and uses the Iridium sat network,supposedly better coverage world wide. But most don't leave the continent? The contract is a yearly charge and turned on and off at will after satisfying a 31 day contract. Larger in size, not much and the reviews I read some were ex customers of the Spot3. I know initial costs are off but depends on how you use it.
Comes down to what you like and or need, I know my direction now.
