So i encountered a group of typical squids today on my way to Smoke Hole Road WV (a must if you are in the Senica Rocks WV area). Anyway I later hit the slab on the way home and as i was riding along i got to thinking, "what is the origon of the term squid??"

Well nothin has to be contemplated in todays world, what with Wikipedia an all. Have a look I laughed pretty hard at the last paragraph but i have a warped sense of humor; you might cry Click here

Perhaps we should do a poll to vote on the best definition

Wiki doesn't show dates, but back in the late 70's in Orlando, FL (there was a huge Navy base there at that time),

many young Navy recruits bought sport bikes, rode dangerously, and many died.

-- The term 'squid' was used often back then. My vote -- it's a navy thing.

smoke hole now thats hot !!!!!!!!!
And its sportin new tarmak to boot! it was a lovely ride. Note that a few minutes in there was a rock slide on the outside of a left hand hairpin. looked very fresh. given the dead ground hog next to it i would imagine that someone tried to dodge the hog and hit the rocks. oops

I wonder if a squid is any relation a Harley rider?

No! Those are actual MC boots as recommended by Orange.

The gloves had a purpose. They were to keep my knuckles from being bashed by insect collisions. :)

Glad you made it home okay and in time to post some crap for me. You sleeping with that Strada tonight?

:)

Huh? Recommended by Orange?

Orange you gonna' wear girl's boots in your squid pics?

Just pokin' ya' Jeff... I know for sure that you'd NEVER wear girl's boots.

I gave the new Strada a lil' caress b4 I put her to bed.

WERD about the insect collisions. If you look really close at NC insects you can see stewardess' on board serving drinks.

but "squid" is a generic term for sailors (used by other branches). it's not unique to riders. in that context it's compromised.

soft-skinned creatures that move from one point to another with short bursts of speed: squid (a rider without protective gear and of questionable wisdom,if not skill).

Jeff, What is that clipped to your belt in that famous photo?
That was my Samsung Palm Pilot Cell Phone. Tough old bird it was! I was using the cell phone that day to communicate with the Photog on the roadside. He spotted traffic for me so that I could turn it up as needed.

Now sporting the Motorola-Q in the breast pocket of the mesh jacket via Bluetooth.

Life moves on!!!

:)
