I have an upcoming business trip and am wondering if I can make a SS1000 out of it. Round trip, it's 1600 miles, but there are some time constraints that are conspiring against me like a math problem. Anyone see a good way to get a 1000 miles in a 24 hour period with the following caveats?

Must depart from Baton Rouge, LA no earlier than 9 am on Wednesday

Must return to Baton Rouge, LA no later than 3 pm on Friday

On Wednesday, I must make a 2 hour stop in Memphis, TN enroute.

Thursday must be in Somerset, KY for a meeting from 12:30 until 3:00.

I figure I won't be able to add 200 miles to the trip on the way to Somerset to make the first leg a 1,000. However, if I leave no later than 3:30 pm from Somerset and set up my return route for 1,000 back to BR, I should get back just under the 24 hour mark.

A few questions for the experienced crowd:

Do you see an alternative way to do this?

Is my plan feasible, based on your experience?

Making the home-bound trip a 1K will come with only a 1 day rest period before I begin it. Is that too little?

Lastly, what is a good average speed for the SS1K? I think I saw 55mph. Is that accurate?

Thanks in advance.

It is possible, but its all up to you, if you can do it or not.

The 2 hour layover in Memphis does not have to be a killer. I did my SS in 19 hours, and that included a 1 hour diner break.

I think I would run it on the trip up rather than back as you have a better opportunity to rest before you go. On the way back you may be wary before you start the trip. But depending on the job, and how alert you need to be for your meeting, and how important it is. I would prob just do it another time.

Thanks for the input, Fencer. Think I'll just put it off to a non-work trip. I'm physically and mentally ready... work's just gettin in the way.

It seems to me... Given the route you have and the time table... The mostly lilkely time to do this is on the route back from Sommerset to Baton Rouge. 700ish miles, and stretch that to 1k.

The easiest route would be:

Sommerset to Knoxville

Knoxville to Nashville,

Nashville to 24 South towards Chatanooga

From there to Jackson, with a Jaunt west to Vicksburg then back to 55 South to home.

1025ish miles.

Issues:

(1) if you left sommerset at 3pm ish, you'd be in/around Knoxville at rush hour.

(2) you'd need to make sure you got adequate receipts to document this zig-zag trip.

But it's easily doable IMHO. With minimal stops for fuel you'd be home by 10am.

Given the other required stops on the front side of your trips I'd had to bank on a 2 hour meeting in sommerset but you could certainly try that.

Memphis to Summerset back to Baton Rouge is easily 1100 miles. You didn't mention at what time your 2 hour lay over in Memphis had to take place. Its roughly a 6 hour ride from Memphis to Somerset, so if you could work backwards from your meeting time and do you time in Mephis at the right time it could all work out.
