It has been on my list to do a SS1K, and also to ride the dragon. So I thought, why not do them both??

I have laid out a route and now just have to wait for a window in my work schedule and the weather.

The route is mostly interstate except from atlanta to knoxville through the dragon. I am not counting the roads from Montgomery to Dothan. Those are divided highway southern roads and you can make decent time on them.

Any thoughts?

Mike

It'd be a shame to just have to ride through and proceed onwards. It'll definitely knock off your SS pace, too.

A year or so ago a similar question came up about including Key West in a Florida SS1K. The universal advice was to forget it, as it's a 35mph highway for about 4 hours to get there, then you have to come back, as it's a dead end. At least 6, maybe 8 hours to get a 250-mile loop in.

Putting the dragon into your ride won't be that far off-pace, but I'd rather have time to see what's up there and take in some other area roads like Cherahola and Blue Ridge.

The blue ridge is 45 mph and there are not that mant spots to get off and on also there is construction going on for many miles . You should check there web site . As for the skyway it is a must ride in my book .

Thanks for the input so far.

This wouldn't be my one and only ride to the dragon and surrounding area.

A long weekend would probably be better to explore it well. 6 or 10 trips up and down the good roads.

I'll let you know how the SS works out with a ride report after I make it happen.
