Hello all. I am planning a 50CC this spring, but since I live in dusty West Texas, gonna turn it in to a SS5000 and a 50CC, cuz I gotta get to a coast to start the darn ride. I have a coupla questions for the wiser guys/gals on the forum...

1. What tires likely to last the 5000 miles...currently on my second set of Roadsmarts, but not sure I like what they feel like after about 4000 miles. Hate to get flamed for another tire thread, but there will certainly not be any time for even thinking about new tires once this ride starts. I am happy to put a new set of whatevers on just prior to this ride, so thought I would inquire long before the ride!

2. Any issues with going 5000 miles before an oil change? Will certainly change oil/complete service just prior to leaving.

Appreciate the advice.

Marc

YMMV, but I can get that kind of mileage out of the stock z6 tires or the PR2's.

I only change my oil normally at 5000 miles. Did you know that our FJR's in Europe call for a 5000 mile oil change interval? I'm not sure why the oil lasts 1000 miles less in the US.

According to this page on fjr1300.info, European service intervals are 10,000 kilometers, or a touch over 6,200 miles. That's for oil changes, TBS, etc. - everything US FJR's are told to do at 4,000 mile intervals. Weird.

Probably related to liability issues. We're a litigious bunch on this side of the pond! :nhl_fight:

I wanted to do this as well on my 50CC this spring, but you have to have completed another ride before you do the SS5K and the 50CC will be my first. Seems like a waste of mileage since I will be putting on that many miles and then some but what can ya do...

I guess just do more LDR, funny how that is ;)

I am curious about tires as well, I was just going to put on a new set before I leave. I got 7K on the stock tires and have about 4K on my Dunlop RoadSmarts and they seem to be wearing good so far.

Install Michelin Pilot Road 2 (if you can find them in stock). Alternatively, even though they feel like wood, the Metzler Marathon 880 wears like iron. Kinda feels that way, too, compared to tires like the Storms, PR's, etc.

No, there is not. You are fine with that change interval. Even on a continuous basis.

Another :thumbsupsmileyanim: on the PR2's... Still feel good to me after 9k, though they are starting to show some wear and I'll probably replace them before 10k

What Warchild said on the interval.
