BTW, I get ****** mileage, like 34. Prolly 'cause all the commuting. But I can claim 40?
You can. I commute daily (~24 miles one-way, lane-splitting a decent portion of that) and get at least 40mpg (on a stock '08 other than Rifle screen)

On my Lap of California last year, I ranged from 40mpg to well over 50 (on a highly patrolled route from Lake Tahoe heading towards Lassen riding close to posted limit the entire tank).

The environmental downside - how quickly that rear rubber disappears :(

Oh, man, these are GREAT ideas! I'm totally re-doing the plaque. I need a bigger piece of paper....

And Patrick, I'm going with the 0-60. I have a Vet story too, but it's not for a public post. But I will say that "chickened out first" plays a role. No, t'wasn't me.
I remember you blowing by an Aston Martin on Bear Creek too.

ABS is considerred 'optional equipment', not an accessory. Why not add 'fuel-injected?' I'll bet many of the bikes there won't be. Linked braking; that might raise some questions. Maybe 'liquid-cooled'.

Be careful on the environmental footprint item. It's well known bikes pollute more than cars these days, so with all

our power, you stand a chance of being painted with the crap-brush. Love the ideas on noting gear and riding courses!

Are we to assume there will be pics? Hmmm? Never happened if there are no pics...

On the "carbon foot-print" idea:

I did some calculations comparing cost of ownership for my FJR versus my Toyota RAV4 and they come out about even.

The kicker is the tires. The FJR eats them ravenously, whereas my RAV4 gets 55-60K out of a set.

And tires are made out of rubber (petro-chemical) and carbon-black (which is a material produced by the incomplete combustion of heavy petroleum products acc to Wikipedia).

So, unless you are referring to the contact print with the pavement, I'm not sure there is a legitimate argument about the carbon foot-print.

All that said, 42 mpg avg and being able to blow the doors off most everything else with four wheels on the highway is pretty good!

Not the way JB commutes! Have you seen his video (Linky Thingy)? Keeping the RPMs above 5K and slipping/feathering the clutch are not methods/riding styles conducive to good gas mileage.

When checking my mileage after a commute week, my average is usually 37-39 mpg. My riding style, vis a vis engine speed/road speed/clutch-brake management is a bit more conservative.

Brakes aren't liked, are they?
Yes, Brakes are "liked" and sometimes necessary. ;)

However, Gen I FJRs do not have linked brakes.

I wouldn't want to say too much about my carbon footprint, if I were going to be really candid. I get much better mileage with the Feejer, but I never take my truck out for a drive just because it's so damn much fun.

I got 43 mpg on my 05... I'll let you use that number...<G>

Hmmmmm..... I also got 43 on my 03 Harley and my 02 Bandit 1200...

Only 40 with the 06 Triumph Speedmaster (800cc)... so the bigger the engine, the better mpg! .... :yahoo:

Go with a range. Plenty of us don't have the traffic you do and are getting 50+ mpg on the commute. Mine right now is a bit over 51.

And Patrick, I'm going with the 0-60.
C'mon Mr. Mental Gymnastic!

MPH? MPG? HP? Those terms are SOOOOO plebian.

You oughta do better than that with where you are! With all the physics gurus around, you oughta find be able to somebody who can put things in terms of quarks per millisecond, or escape velocity, or sumthin!

:p

Right. I'll get my son the physics PhD student on it....

Don't forget that this bike has two...That's right, TWO catalytic converters and an Oxygen sensor to keep the emissions in line...Even at 140mph. Haha.
