What are the different opinions on how effective stainless bar ends for curing the fingers tingling?

I think synchronizing the TB's is more effective than the bar ends. I have the Top Gun bar ends, and I don't think they really help.

The tingling is a long debated issue. I think there's a lot more going on with tingling than bar ends are going to help. Especially by themselves.

Having said that, I'm doing everything I possibly can, short of carpal tunnel surgery to relieve the problem.

I may do an experiment this weekend by removing one or both side and swapping out with the stock ends to see if the bars feel different. I'm not sure I'll be able to tell any difference.

Heavy Bar End Weights are only one of three main areas where you can help minimize any residual vibes you may feel in your hands.

The single biggest reducer/eliminator of handlebar vibes is a thorough, painfully-exacting Throttle Body Synch performed on your throttle bodies. This is where the vast majority of handgrip vibes originate.

The other two areas are vibe-absorbing hand-grips and heavy bar end-weights. Most of the Long Distance crowd uses the BMW "Sport Grips" and a set of Top Gun end weights, both you can get at FJRGoodies.com. Here are the latter two installed:

All this having been said.... not all FJR vibes are created equal. Some folks complain of vibes no matter how many TBS's are performed, or different hand grips tried, or various bar ends weights installed, etc, etc. I'm not talking the well-known 4100-4300 RPM buzz, I'm talking a vibration you can feel at many different engine speeds.

Then again, some folks hardly every perform a TBS on their bike, use stock grips/end weights, and still think the bike is silky-smooth at all engine speeds, so....

I have not tried the bar ends, but I did solve the problem for me. I bought the Tacki grips per member recommendation and they have cured the tingling. At $10 they were the cheapest and most effective farkle for me yet.

Here is the thread that convinced me to buy them in the first place:

I just read Warchild's TBS instructions on FJRtech.com. Am I to assume that once you warm up the engine you connect the carb tuner up with the engine still running, or do you shut it off, hook'em up and restart it? Or does it make a difference? I have the tool hanging in my garage and will be very careful installing the mercury after reading Sparky3008's experience a couple weeks back. :D :rolf:

The latter.

Connect all 4 lines first, then start the engine.

Like already stated, three things to do. TB sync is the most important. Better grips help, I put on the BMW grips and like them very much and the heavy bar ends helped a little. I got rid of the heavy bar ends and put on the throttlemeister instead. What I think was important was to use metal on metal instead of the rubber dampened mount for the original bar ends.

As I have said before, WC's advice is rock solid!

The heavy bar ends ( Top Gun ) are probably the least effective farkle I have done. They do look good and if that's worth the cost to you, then go for it. Otherwise, save your money.

I unboxed my Economy Carb Tuner today and did the TBS. It definitely helped the tingling problem but didn't quite completely cure it, however my FJR has had a bit of a surge ever since I got it with zero miles on it. I thought that was just the nature of the beast. Apparently it came from Yamaha a little bit out of sync. All carbs were between 22 and 24 on the scale, or within the 10mm variance allowed. #2 and #3 were almost dead center between 22 and 24, #1 was at 22, and #4 was at 24. I got them all very close to #3 and the surge is gone. I suspect that a 10mm max variance may be a bit much. Thanks to WC's write up it's now as smooth as a babies butt. :yahoo: I guess I'll check out the various grips on this thread and order them next.

I have the FJR Goodies heavy end weights. Look cool but don't think they do shi*. I agree it got better after the TBS w/ the Carbtune. I have the foam grip covers over the factory grips.
