Hello everyone,

So I picked up this starcom advance while at Daytona...

I connected it to power from my fuse box under the pillion seat and it worked with the cell phone and music, as long as i was using aa batteries for power the music was clean and loud....I have the vox set and can receive calls

the issue I have is when i plug the radar/gps cable in I lose everything, if I pull that cable out an 1/8 inch I get my music and phone back, but can not hear my radar/ or gps....

How do i find out if i have a bad cable or comm unit?

Thanks for any help

MIke

Call your vendor.

Takes a mono plug on the radar detector side, and the cable must be an 'isolation' cable as well. Jeff, of SportBikeEffects, a member of this board, has them available for sale. I have read various threads that state DON'T USE A NON-ISOLATED CABLE, IT CAN RUIN THE RADAR DETECTOR.

If it takes Jeff (Bike Effects) longer than a day to get back to you someone should check on him. I have bought from him twice with very fast responses. I would highly recommend him.

Good luck!

Well in my hast to get a unit, it did not dawn on me to buy a unit from him....

Unfortantely I have a see it buy it mentality, just like I did with this bike!!!! :0)

so I was walking around at Daytona and there it was...at least the radio and cell phone functions work.

so I guess I am SOL!

no worries, , just may not be able to track the vendor down any time soon...

but I have to have faith that he will offer some sort of assistance...

at this point i think i only have a bad cable....

so fingers are crossed.

Plugging a stero male into the female at the RD will cause the exact problem you are having..

I been dere done dat!

It will work with a mono going to the RD, you will get sound, but rumor has it, once again, that using a non-isolated special cable may fry the RD.

OTOH, I used mine with the 'wrong' cable for about a week before I knew better and all is still good.

Just a theory.....

If the cable you are using from your radar/gps is a regular (non isolated) cable, then, perhaps it's sending a buzz through the cable which the Starcom is thinking that the radar/gps is sending an audio signal and it cancels out the other devices.

Have you also tried to turn the VOX all the way down to see if you still have the problem? If it's up too far, the slightest of sounds might make everything go silent.

Problem solved, now I could tell you all how, but then I would feel *&*(&&*(, so I will just say thanks and it was a port issue....
