I am in the processes of changing out my Starcom Advance with a Starcom Digital. I have a serious problems with the buttons both on the main unit and on the remote. They cause a loud popping sound in my ears when they are pressed. It is almost painfully loud. I have played with the master and the music volume for both rider and passenger but it does not make a difference. My initial contact with the manufacturer resulted in an email where they said "This is normal for Digital the click is for the rider to know the passengers volume level." Huh? They probably did not understand my problem correctly. I replied giving them more detail but in the meantime I thought I would check to see the experiences of others with regard to this issue.

Is "digital click" supposed to be this loud?

Thanks,

Bob

I don't have experience with the digital but I do have experience with the Starcom Engineers. The tend to be terse, their replies are indicative of someone who knows exactly what is wrong but their fingers do not connect with their brain when they type a response / explanation. <_< I just sent mine back for a repair, got it back with no cover note or explanation, just an invoice for 0.00 and all it says is "Rep PC" - no idea what they did.

Good luck!

Not much help in that I've never experienced this issue with my Starcom Digital. I only have the main unit, no remote.

I would check the Master Volume (different from Music Volume) and Mic Vox (if it's overly sensitive, it may be picking something up from your speakers.) Like any electronic do-dad, check your connections and make sure they are clean and dry.

I've never experienced this with my digital unit, but I don't use the remote unit, opting instead for a remote volume unit only.

Yes, I'm using custom-molded in-ear plugs. My Starcomm is using a V-1, XM radio, iPod and bluetooth on the input side.

I just received a response from Starcom. They said the click sound is normal and it might be louder with earphones. They are asking me to send it in (at my expense) and they will adjust the click volume. Sounds like mine is defective since at least one other person is using earphones and doesn't have this problem. I am going to ask that they test my unit with earphones before sending it back.

I'd guess that means they "replaced the printed circuit" board, which if you've ever opened up the box to look inside, is just about all there is in there. IOW you've got a brandy new Advance. ;)

Do be aware that I have no use for the buttons on the unit itself once I got it setup and mounted under the rider seat. Maybe if I pushed the butttons I'd get the same loud click you're hearing. That's the reason I got the remote volume unit. Why pay to have all the buttons (and have to find a place for the remote) when all I need to do is adjust the volume? Also, I took the guts out of the remote volume unit, slathered the back with liquid electrical tape to waterproof it, and hard-mounted it in the panel by the glove-box, beside my hard-mounted heatroller knobs.

Of those that say they don't experience it, are any of you using earphones?
As one of those that don't have the issue... No earphones, strictly Starcom helmet speakers.
