Hey Lee. Did they say they were getting in one or two more? I seem to remember you saying something about that on an earlier post.
GP
Correct.

They told me in mid-June that they had just ordered 2 more. At that point is was a little iffy if they were going to get that order filled. I started searching for a backup plan/dealer. Then Yamaha confirmed the order, so I guess that meant that Yamaha confirmed the order for 2 units.

To be 100% sure you'd have to call them. You interested for you, for someone else or just in general?

Lee
It would be me that is interested. I've got one coming in fairly close to me, but it is $800 higher that D & H. Kind of want to see what the 09s look like, but we won't know till sometime around the end of September/first of October. Rats! What's a guy to do? I'm getting kind of ichy for that new bike.

GP
so, if D&H gets one sooner than the dealer closer to you are you considering flying to AL for the D&H bike? when is the one closer to you supposed to be in?

You're so right, about getting itchy. I've got room in the garage all cleaned out and ready for it.

Don't know for sure about the D&H thing. There's always a possibility. I'm going over to my close dealership today and see if they can make me feel a little better about buying from them. My garage has an empty spot where my 04 used to sit. I'm ready too.

Did my weekly call into Renaa today at D&H...
Yamaha has sent the bike from the factory (or dock) to their warehouse, probably in Atlanta. They have not invoiced D&H yet but they expect that any day now. once the invoice is processed the bike will be shipped to D&H, sometimes w/in a day or two. Renaa expects them to have it from the warehouse w/in two weeks.

I'm targeting 8/11 to fly from KC to Huntsville for delivery that Friday. I'll take Saturday through Monday to get home over about 700 miles. Have not purchased a plane ticket yet. Really want to hear that they have the bike at their store before I do that.

I'm thinking I'll go ahead and order some sliders, take them with me and install down there. I also plan to ask them to back off the oil drain plug so I can have an easier oil change between Cullman and home. I'll buy filter, oil and gasket there to take with. I don't plan on taking my 4' length of pipe to use on my wrench on the road with me to make the first filter change.

It won't be easy waiting for delivery but work is really heavy right now so that provides me with some distraction. Plus I have the mean streak to ride in the meantime.

A few forum members have expressed interest in my experience so I'll continue to check in. Plus it gives me someting to do while I wait for delivery!

Package in the mail today: lots of alabama travel stuff and an incomplete bill of sale showing the bike price. also got a D&H refrig magnet!

No offense to D&H but this just makes me all the more impatient.

patience, patience, patience....

Well, it is in.

Got home last night to the package with touristy stuff and a D&H bill of sale showing my down payment had been deposited/cashed by them. To me this was further confirmation that they had rec'd confirmation from Yamaha that a "unit" was going to fill their order.

Today I received a phone call from Renaa telling me that it came in today and it was being assembled by the crew. They are waiting for my word to them of when I'll fly in, whether it will be Huntsville or Birmingham, time, day, etc.

I was planning on 8/8 to fly in but now that it can be sooner I'm going to see what I can rearrange on my calendar and work schedule to see if I can make the trip sooner.

The waiting is not over but at least now I'm waiting with an actual bike there waiting for me!

I drove from Corpus Christi for my 06 it was a good experience and the best price although fuel was quite a bit less then--might not work at current fuel prices

I hear great things about them, keep us posted on the rest of your adventure with D&H. I plan on an 09 and will travel for the right deal.

I had them install my Heli triple clamp & sliders before I flew in. Very reasonable!
I think I want to try riding with stock bars, seat, pegs for a while adn see how I like or don't like that. I may even try the handle bar adjustment on the way home. But I bought trex sliders on ebay yesterday and they should be here in plenty of time for me to get the right tools (lock-tite and allen wrench?) together to take with me.

I've asked for a shop manual to be there when I pick up the bike.

installing sliders and changing handle bars back can be part of the getting acquainted process.

I'll take Saturday through Monday to get home over about 700 miles.

Hell, that's a one day ride for Feeejr!!!

Did the fly and buy from D&H also. Awsome Folk's down there in Alabama. After i picked my bike up my wife and i rode to Dickson TN.

238 miles. After visiting our son i left solo from Dickson on Saturdy @11:00 A.M. and was home by 8:50 on Sunday. Stayed overnight in Virginia. "THIS BIKE ROCKS"

The week before pickup is just torture, But the unrelentless smile that never goe's away is worth it.

Good luck and safe travels

Well, its been a one-day ride for me on my kaw mean streak, too. But that wasn't for a breakin. I sort of want to take it easy, do an oil change at about 200 miles, run up the Natchez Trace Parkway on the way home, take an east-to-west route through the Ozarks, either north AR or south MO. So, I believe I can stretch this out to a four day experience.

I'm waiting for the severe impatience to kick in. So, far, so good with three weeks to go. I imagine I'll be miserable around 8/1.

In the mean time I need to get my mean streak a new front tire adn install a new rear turn signal.

Thanks for the good thoughts.

Oh, how was your 600 mile service? Throttle body synch, etc.? Anything unexpected?

I bought my FJR at D&H and rode it home to Ohio... roughly 950 miles on the scenic route. For what it's worth, I had planned to do a WalMart parking lot oil change at 600 miles enroute, but when I mentioned this to Gerald, his advice was to just ride it home. He felt that the extra 350 miles wasn't going to hurt anything, and that I was probably putting the bike at risk in a parking lot. In other words, if a couple grains of sand were to blow into the crankcase through the oil filter opening, I would do much more damage than I avoided by doing the oil change at 600 miles. I should just ride it home to my clean and cozy garage workshop. So that is what I did. Now...if you are actually planning to have a shop do the service, that would be a different story.

Incidentally, the throttle snych went fine with just a small adjustment needed to #1 and #4, and the rear gear oil was dirty. No surprises.

Lee, I ended up buying an 08 from my dealer here close to me. They didn't come down any more on the price, but the sales manager sold me a lot of accesories I needed for his cost. Made me feel better about it. I've been doing buisness with him for over 15 year when he was the parts managers at a couple of other dealerships. He's always taken pretty good care of me and I wanted to give hime the buisness if I could. I didn't get a bad price, just not as good as D&H.

well then, that sounds alright!

If I had that dealer relationship up here I might have done the same thing.

What sort of accessories did you pick up?

So far, just the sliders. I will get the risers and a throttle lock soon. Fender extender also.
