Screw RenoJohn. I ain't got $$$ for this.

So those of you who bought the $175 from Amazon, did it come with the 2009 mapping? Or a free courtesty upgrade to the 2009 maps?

Mine came with CN-NT 2008 and got a "courtesy" upgrade to CN-NT 2009. The service rep I talked with stated that this was not their policy and the upgrade was their choice. They may have been nice to me as I called with another problem. No big deal, I don't think there is much difference between 2008 and 2009.

These are good deals and good units. I'm running a 2720 I got from Amazon about 7 months ago and I use it everyday in the delivery work I do. Not one problem and I also use it on the bike and in my pickup. The 20 doesn't have the mp3 or XM which I do not use anyway. Was $179.00 new on Amazon. You can get 2730's refurbished as well that comes with a one year warrantee and 2009 maps installed for about $139. And the 09 maps are different than the 08 it came with. I deliver in alot of new subdivisions that weren't on the old map. Anyway you look at it I like it for the bike or anywhere else. Good find John. PM. <>< ;)

Yup - the 2720 was a great unit that I used for several years. Even though it's the "old model", it still does some stuff the newer Zumo 550 *doesn't* do.

Just how muuch better is a Zumo 550 over the 2730? I just got back from a "Stayin' Safe" tour in N. Carolina and the instructor had a 550. Looked pretty good, even down to the turnout we were parked on in the National forrest. But maybe that's just a function of the map software?

He also mentioned some of the LDR guys liked the 2730 better because it had a "track back" feature the 550 did not have. Is the one big advantage the left side buttons? Anything else that is a "must have" feature for motorcycles in the 550 but not in the 2730? Looks like the 2730 is generally waterproof.

Anybody have experience with both? I may rush out and get the 2730, based on the info in this thread. I currently have a GPSIII Plus (I know, about time to upgrade) but don't want to run right out and buy a brand new obsolite model to replace my current steam driven one.

I do not have a 550-but, from what I've read here and elsewhere-the 2730 would be a good way to go, especially for the low price. The 550's have had their issues to be sure, and are way more dough.

How much memory is left after all the maps are installed. I like a lot of funtions on this unit other then the fact it doesn't except SD cards. Will this unit replace my iPod (I have about 500 songs on it right now). I also think I might want to use the XM part, which might have answered my question already.

Thanks,

Dave

Thanks for pointing this out John! I got one and I'm thinking that I'll sell the antenna as you suggested.

Anyone have a photo of this particular GPS mounted on there bike? I would love to see how it is mounted. I know the Zumo comes with a Motorcycle cradle so it seems like it would be easy to mount up. How does this one do? Also do you like it on your bike or are you mostly using it in your cage? I think this might change my mind over the zumo because of price alone.....

I'll look for a photo. I have had mine on so long I should have one around somewhere. There are a variety of ways to mount it. You can use a RAM ball mounted on the triple tree nut, or one of your handlebars. Or, as many do, you can use the stemstand that replaces the triple tree nut. To hold the GPS, you can go the expensive over-engineered route and use a Touratech GPS cradle, or the relatively cheap easy way and use the Garmin motorcycle kit. You should be able to find that kit for $25-30 IIRC. It includes the Garmin GPS mounting cradle and the power wire you will need.

I love this GPS. I have been using it for three years now. (Almost strictly on the FJR) These are incredible deals.

I scored one off ebay for $163 (including shipping) yesterday. My girlfriend has been wanting a GPS, and this is just too fantastic a deal to pass up. I may try and get another one for me just for a back-up.

Edit:

Here's two photos using one of my set-ups with the stemstand and fancy-pants touratech locking cradle.

On my 2nd FJR I have the simpler and less costly Garmin cradle mounted to the stemstand. I would recommend this route due to cost. So far I can't find any photos of that set-up. And remember, you can also mount to handlebars or dash shelf if you so desire.

Skooter, Ask and ye shall recieve. Thanks very much. Going to order one tonight. I really wanted a sirius sattelite setup but this deal seems to good to be true so I will order it. Also if you have a chance sometime please take a photo of your less expensive setup and post if you don't mind. That would be way cool...

Just how muuch better is a Zumo 550 over the 2730?
Well, the 550 has a lot of features the 2730 doesn't have (SD cards, plays audio files, Bluetooth), but if you don't need those features, it's not "better".

Anything else that is a "must have" feature for motorcycles in the 550 but not in the 2730?
Must have? No. Convenient/fun? Yes. Bluetooth is nice. SD card and route swapping is nice. Runs on batteries so I can use it walking.

Looks like the 2730 is generally waterproof.
It is. So is the 550.

Anybody have experience with both?
I own and have used both extensively, along with the TomTom Rider unit, which I wholeheartedly do *not* recommend.

I have the 2730 coming, along with all the necessary hardware. As a result, I will have a Street Pilot III, along with the necessary hardware, including mount and 12 volt power lead, as well as all the other BS that goes with it, up for-no, not sale. Details to follow, but as a teaser, it will be given away to a deserving person, honoring the original plan that came with it when I got it. First, I must remove it from the bike of course, and get things all together. This should be fun. ;)

Just ordered mine through Amazon. Can't wait to get it all on the bike. I really wanted the Zumo again but for the price I wasn't that impressed with my old one so this should be great..

A few questions for those of you who got the 2730.

1. How many songs can you get on it with the MP3. I think it has about 750mb of free memory.

(wish it took memory cards)

2. Can you pipe the music (XM or MP3) into something like the autocom? ...stereo sound?

3. Can you also simply plug earphones into it to get music w/ stereo sound?

4. Does the XM work well?

Thanks!!!

1.) depends on file size but your 750 is fair and figure 4meg per song so apro 200songs ....that is likey a bit conservative.

2.) YES

3.) YES, a stereo plug on the side of the unit, and an 1/8? mono plug on the wiring harness.

4.) Most seem to think so ...but get first hand as I don't use it.

RenoJohn, do you realize how many people you've brought into the GPS world by pointing out this exceptional value?

I'd sworn I'd wait till they were $100, but this is close enough.

(Hey, wanna buy a nice XM antenna. Free delivery. I'll meet you in Greenville. :D )
