Friends, could i get a little feed back on this item. I'm unfimiliar w/the front assembly & wondered if when the stem nut is taken off & replaced with the Techmount device,is the mount part then torqued ? If anybody is useing this,do

you have any trouble with seeing the intruments ? I'm 6ft -average type build. I

intend to use the mount for possibly a Roady 2 install. It seems that this would be

less vibration off the stem than the handle bars? Any feed back would be a help.

Thanks in advance. Sliick2

I am using same mount for my Garmin 2610. You MUST torque I am almost sure it is 80 lbs but better double check that number to be sure. It does slightly interfere with seeing idiot lites for me but I am only 5'9" it might not be a prblem for you.

Yes it has to be torqued. 85 ft-lbs.

Here is a photo of my recently purchased Garmin 2730 GPS mounted on a Techmount stemstand with standard 3" arm, and a Touratech locking GPS cradle mounted to the stemstand. No blockage of instruments.

Thanks you guys! nothing like some pictures to give you perspective. What size is

that mother nut ? looks like I might have to borrow a socket/or maybe just buy

one for future repairs. Really appreciate your time & help. Sliick2

36mm

If you're in good with your local shop, take the replacement stem nut with you to the shop, ask to borrow a 36mm socket, torque wrench that goes up to 85 ft/lb, and a ratchet (was always told to use a regular ratchet and not a torque wrench for loosening extremely tight stuff). It's a 2 minute job if you take your time.

I torqued my Techmount to 85 ft-lbs. Using a 3" stem w/ locking Touratech on top to hold my Garmin 2720...identical set-up to Skooter's. No problems seeing the instruments & doesn't interfere w/ tank bag.

I first tried the 1 1/2" stem and had trouble getting the key in the ignition w/ my fumblebunny hands.

Oh yeah...I'm 6'2" and can see the instruments over the Touratech easily.

I'm using the short arm (no smart-ass comments) and it works well. No problem with seeing instruments, no interference with the tank bag.

Thanks to Skooter for the photos.

Here is how I mounted my Roady...

Did anyone have trouble getting the screw tight enough that holds the arm base to the stem nut? It's the flat head screw with the allen head. I tightened it with an allen wrench but it turned out of place when I was tightening up the arm screw. I guess I could get it tigheter with a T-Handle but I don't have one of those. Did anyone use Loctite on that screw?

The touratech product is a great idea for GPS mounting, but IMHO the fastener sizes used in this design are one size too small at the attachment points. It is very easy to strip threads when tightening the screw that your arrow points to. Despite this, even though they have had returns for this reason, the design has not changed.

Also the fasteners supplied only engage in about half of the threads, contributing to the problem when tightening a ss screw in fine tapped aluminum threads.

The thread size barely allows enough torque to be applied to hold my SP2730, but it does not require much force to move the unit once on the mount.

Thanks for the information. I had a feeling I might have a problem with this screw staying tight when I went to install the product just by looking at it. I'm going to try some loctite and find something better to tighten down the screw. I have a set of allen sockets but the smallest one in the set is one size too large to fit this tiny screw. I'm sure I'll figure it out but the design could be inproved.

Does Touratech bundle this Techmount in with their GPS kit? I purchased this mount only (without GPS mounting hardware) from Techmount.
