Yessir, Be careful on the Gen 2 when removing cover to the air filter as Yamaha is very stingy with the wiring. I figured it must be something I recently screwed up.I give you 'SuperStar' status for finding something like this. Pretty amazing.

For sure. Another few centimeters is strategic spots would be nice. Ever try to change a tail light bulb? Or reconnect spark plug wires after trimming the ends slightly? How about rewiring a burnt ground connector (aka "spider")? An extra $5 spent on conducting wire at the factory would make several tasks (including air filter change) much easier....Yamaha is very stingy with the wiring...

You only say that because you have like a dozen of them.Agreed! Something like that would have kicked my ass! I wouldn't have found it and probably lit my FJR on fire and burned it to the ground!
2. Sidestand up?
sounds stupid, but been there
Yes. As long as the neutral light is lit. I still think you have to establish the health of the battery (and connections) before exploring any other avenues. If the battery is fundamentally healthy as demonstrated by a load test then it is time to look at starter, stator, R/R etc.Okay maybe I'm an idiot but if I'm in neutral I should be able to start the bike while on the side stand, no?
