I've had my bike almost a month...

Installed Hyper-Lites...posted pics here just two days ago.

Installed 3M ScotchBrite High Reflective tape on my saddle bags as seen in this forum...

Took a defensive rider's course - one-on-one, private

Passed my rider's road test to get my license just yesterday

All this before I took my wife out for her first ride and a dang cager, who was talking on the phone, nicked my left saddle bag as she failed to stop behind me at a yield sign. She had no license or insurance. I only have a small scratch below my reflector. We were lucky!

Cell phones are the worst!!!!!!!!! Anytime I see any cager with their hand near their head, I use my old adage, when in doubt, throttle out. Sure the excuse was she didn't see you.

I was rear ended twice on my '84 Venture Royal.. Had more lights on it than the average Gold Wing too.

Not only did I have lights but my wife and I were both wearing reflective jackets and I have reflective tape on my helmet. She was talking on the phone but told the cop her shoe slipped off her foot. :glare:

I thank God that it was not worse but it's the point of the matter. GRRRRR!!! :angry2:

Didn't they teach you to stop pointed in a "getaway" position with the bike in gear and watching the rear mirror for people not stopping???

Glad it wasn't any worse, but people get killed because they have no where to go when they hear those tires squealing.

I don't always love it when a new law comes around, but starting July 1, hand-held cell phones are verboten in California. I personally think it's being engrossed in the conversation, more than having one hand occupied, that's the cause of most of the problems, but if it helps. . . Anyway, for you, SloRide, it was a pretty cheap lesson in "advanced cage avoidance."

Yes. Absolutely, and I was aimed in such a fashion. However, traffic was coming (I was yielding) and there was a guard rail to my right. I had no where to go except into the on coming traffic. I saw her coming but there was nothing I could do. Thankfully, it was a grazing blow but still some damage was done which I will need to get repaired. No dents (that I can see). Just scuffing.

almost got nailed from getting gas today. i stopped a stoplight, saw the RETARD next to me in the vibe phone in hear. light turns green, we go, in about 200 ft the fuckr starts drifting in my lane, honk horn, down shift and veer outta the way with some power, give him the TWN salute, look back to see Lompoc's finest pull a U-turn on HWY1 on them shiny new ST1300, lights going and Pulls the mother fucker over!! made my day so see that fuktard get a dam ticket. i did how ever almost entertained the idea of kicking in is door, but thought better of it.

My daughter was a victim in an accident where the other motorist had no license or insurance. Our insurance company is rather pro-active in such cases.

I'd hope you gave the officer a conflicting report as to the cause AND that your insurance company will want to pursue this. SHE should be getting a ticket or two (though its too bad she wasn't arrested on the spot.).

Let me get this straight, the only words you can come up with are to blame the rider who was sitting there like a sitting duck? I'm sorry, but I really get tired of hearing people who act like a rider can always avoid an accident. I see posts like yours more than I care to. Sure, I believe in defensive driving as much as anyone, and it has saved me a lot of accidents. But I'll never blame the innocent and act like they did something wrong.

That sign is perfect!!! It really is stunning how many of the idiots I see driving erratically are gabbing on their cell phones. What could be so important?

BTW, it's not just cagers. I once saw a guy on a big HD riding down the freeway and talkiing on his cell. That must have been some conversation.

I disagree. The lights and extra reflective materials are essential. I've seen the reactions of the drivers behind me, the ones who are actually looking, when I hit the breaks and they Hyper-Lites start flashing. They back off. They see me. They know I'm stopping. For that, those lights are worth it and are a 10 fold improvement over the factory light. To your point, it only works on drivers that are looking at you.

Get the lights.

Get the reflective material.

Get seen.

Whole lot of assuming going on with an accusatory post like that. A getaway position is not a guaranty of safety by any means.
