I have a 2005 FJR. The stock seat won't lock down. I've tried pushing down, putting my knee and all my weight on it, and sitting on it and jumping up and down. Nothing works. I thought 'd add some shims behind the U ring to give it some more depth but the U ring is connected to the seat with rivits, not screws. Does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Check the latch that locks the D bar AND the lock cylinder itself for sticking. the latch is spring loaded and may need some spray lube and if the key cyl. is not fully back to the point you can remove the key same thing

The key works and the latch works also. I had another seat on but had to put a few washers behind the D ring to make it go far enough in to lock. Any other suggestions?

I took it to the dealer and it turned out to be a bent crossbar that the seat sits on. He bent it back up with a crowbar and the seat snapped right in.

Yep. A crowbar is the go-to tool in my garage too. A hammer too. Wonder how that crossbar ever got bent? Would take alot of force to do that, wouldn't it?
