I always (usually?) try to, like Monty Python says, "...look on the bright side of life," so when I read the complaints about the stock shield I took it onboard and figured I'd live with what I have. Just made my first commute 40 miles up 95 to Arlington today and I gotta admit the stock shield SUCKS! Clean air when it's down, but anything other than that produces head bobbles and a definite push forward. Clean air is nice, but at 80mph it would be nice to have some quiet and no push/pull. Reckon I'll spring for the CB +4+3 sooner than I thought. Still, great to ride first thing in the morning - and Friday mornings are usually less dangerous than other days around here.

I bought the larger AYAMAY windshield. It reduced the buffeting but not as much as I would have liked. I only use the larger one when it a bit cooler out. With the larger one riding with the temps above 80-85 is pure hell with gear on. Since it has been in the 90's in Michigan lately, I have the smaller stock one on. I'm getting use to the noise and when I know I'm going for a hundred miles or more i tend to wear ear plugs. It's just like the windshield threads have said before, you just have to try different windshields until one works for you.

The larger windsheild will help, but your not going have total quiet with no push/pull

on this bike. good luck..

I use the c.b. +4 +2 and for colder weather its much better, but theres no perfect combo on this bike.

Ever tried a Rifle touring shield with Tuning Block?

I've tried both a CB +2+4 with flip and the Rifle touring shield.

Bottom line: Sold the CB and kept the Rifle. No buffetting. No sucking affect. No noise. Been running it for just about 2.5 years now. Simply said, if you are looking for minimum noise and buffetting, Rifle is the only good solution. A custom made CB (perhaps +4+6 or bigger) may work as well.

At 110mph in smooth air, I can basically sit there with one hand on the bars and smoke a cigarette while hearing tunes clearly. If that isn't smooth, I don't know what is.

I used Radman's nutty technique to "tune" my CB4+4. It really makes a difference on that big ol' thing. Have not ridden behind the Saeng thang or the Rifle, so nothing to compare there. However, I like the set back 4+4 better than the Givi flip or the stock '04 shield.

I have done 16,000 kms with the stock shield [after I altered the lean angle] Inserted 14 mm stainless washers to change the angle of lean. No more pressure on your back, smoother air at speed with the screen at full elevation.

Played with [from] 5mm to 10 mm sets found that [for me] the combination of 9 + 5 mm worked best. The rifle is a fixed angle which may not be best for you. This way you can play with various angles till you find what is perfect for you

I added the cb 4+2 tonight..much better.i did not like the quality of the plastic screws.they easily rounded when reinserted two snaped.i think i torqued to much.Ireplaced them with stainless steel screws put through stainless steel inset gramit washers that fit into the frame perfectly flush.A lock washer and nut on the back.held tight as a frogs ass at triple digits on the freeway.I also put the mag-knight tank gaurd on. I used a hair dryer not a heat gun.in my case less room for prolonged heat causeing damage took a little longer but worked really well...happy fjr'n

I changed the angle of the stock screen with a length of aluminium shaped at and angle which made a difference in that it did not suck you into the screen when you raised the screen. I purchased a titted custom screen which is basically the same stock screen except the sides are the same width and there is a kicker at the top of the screen. It makes it a little noisy when lowered but fully extended ther is only a little bit of noise. I'm not completely happy but I don't want a barn door up the front either. I'll do some experiementing and let you know who I go. ;)

I'm not sure what you mean by 9 + 5mm? I assume you don't mean 14mm worked best?

Highlander has the perfect summer set up. Smooth flowing air over that shield.

Yamaholic has the perfect solution if you want NO air or buffeting at all. The Rifle sheild it +7 over a stock 03 shield. I didn't have one but rode a friends who did. Summer riding with the Rifle is hotter but on long trips its less tiring. I'm 6'2" BTW, I had a screen like Highlander's for around town summer riding, less than 2-3 hours. If I was going on a day trip I put a cee baileys +2+4 that was decent at protection on the highway when up. It had decent flow when down too. IIRC there isn't any airflow over that Rifle even in the down position.

Would the tune you are hearing have the words "Lord I'm comin' home" in it?

  :haha:

I use the Rifle Touring windshield without the tuning block and it works great for me. Rifle includes the tuning block with each windshield at no additional charge.

I'll try using the tuning block again just to see if I still like the non-tuning block configuration. I'm 6' tall with a 33" inseam. :agent:
