Went south on 95 yesterday and got off at the Thornburg exit. West a couple of miles to the SW Jackson "Shrine." Actually it's the small building (was the plantation office at the time) where SW died after being wounded at Chanclorsville (sp). They have the bed frame, a blanket, and the clock that was with him when he died - the clock (from 1832 still works!). Then I headed down Guinea Station road and a couple other roads (who knows where). Beautiful day and some pretty nice scenery - pretty flat country, but some nice roads. I'm gonna explore that area some more in the future. Wish I'd brought my camera, would have had a great picture with Maxine (a beautiful Galaxy Blue 05) in front of the "Shrine." But, forgot the camera.

I went back to the "Shrine" Sat morning and here it is.

Also for the first time I got to ride for about 45 minutes in a snow storm - pretty cool!!

Should add that Stonewall Jackson was taken to this house - on a plantation near Guinea Station (important supply line/depot during the Civil War) - after his wounding at Chancellorsville. He lived for a short while and then said, "Let us cross the river to sit under the shade of the tree" - and then did so! He died in a first floor room - 2d large window on 1st floor. Pretty neat, they have a blanket, the bedframe, and a clock that were in the room when he died - clock still works.

Stonewalls illfaded and untimely friendly fire death was probably the best thing that could have ever happend for the Union. Had he not died so soon into that war, I would be sending this e-mail from a succeeded sovereign nation! ;)

Those of us from the Old Dominion hold General Stone Wall Jackson as a Hero

of Ole Virginia ,, a deeply Religious man who loved his country ,, and sacrificed everything for it ,,

there is no "if" debate

we are still The Commonwealth of Virginia !!
