When I was a kid, a fresh rain had fallen and I heard a Harley gaining speed. He took a 45 mph turn at 55 on fresh wet pavement and slid off the road. His head hit the wood telephone phone first. I thought the crack I heard was the pole, but it was when his helmet (Arai) and head got split open like a walnut.

I was first on the scene and I was about 12 years old. Maybe this explains my 1/3 inch of chicken strips! You don't have to go too fast to bust your head open...you just have go too fast for the situation.

Unfortunately, as we go around turns we can't know what kind of thing will be in the way. I came very close to hitting a folded flat cardboard moving box in the middle of the turn. To miss it, I used up that 1/3 inch of chicken strip :) Had I his that, the bike would have pretty obviously slid right out from under me. We sure do have to watch out...humans can be incredibly tough, and incredibly fragile depnding on how we hit.

I hope you are all safe out there! :p

I don't recall it, but they have a word for that in Japan
I don't know if it's still the term, but in feudal Japan the term was Seppuku. The Bushido (code of the Samurai) was to end their life if they shamed themselves, their family, or their lord. They used their Shoto (short sword) for this purpose by pulling the sword into their abdomen on the right side, then pulling it accross to their left, then up while in a kneeling position. They had a "second" (another Samurai), who would stand behind them and finish the job if necessary by cutting off their head with the Daito (long sword).

Yea, Seen that in many old japanese films.

I think riding the motorcycle would be more fun. :D

Boy I'm glad I read the replies before clicking the link. I ain't watchin' it. No siree. I love my blissful ignorance and childlike naivete.

Good call, I actually want to recheck the helmet vs. skull part, but I really don't want to see that again.

Why isn't THIS short video mandatory viewing for all of those BS lid-wearing cruisers?

I'll bet many of them (unfortunately, not all) will think twice before donning their mandatory Dew rag head protection.
