I am trying to replace my headlight bulbs to replace with X-tremes. Easy enough to unplug the headlight power coupler...just pull.

I am not understanding exactly how to "remove the bulb cover"....which I am assuming is the ring with the rubber gasket. The manual just doesn't give detail on how to get it off.

Thanks in advance.

Just pull until it comes off. The left side is slightly easier than the right. I found holding onto one of the two rubber protusions made it easier to pull from the bulb underneath. Yes, it is a gasket that stretches and covers a big hole.

Putting them back on (especially the right side) is much harder though and guaranteed frustration for the first timer.

As Iggy stated, the rubber cover just pulls off but it could be a real pain the first time. To make it much easier next time, put some dielectric grease on the boot before reinstalling it. :yahoo:

Once you get the rubber boot off, you'll have the next pain trying to unclip the wire spring that holds the bulb in place inside the housing. :angry2: :dribble: If you've never dealt with that type of bulb retainer (on your car maybe?), it'll be hard to describe how it's done. Basically, there's a bent wire spring that's hinged at one end and hooks around a little tab on the other end. It's easy enough to see how it hooks if you can see it, but it's not easily viewable on the bike. Try a inspection mirror and flashlight if you've never done it before.

Thanks Iggy & Harald,

Your suggestions were just what i needed. it went pretty smooth all in all. Did everything by feel.
