I'm glad you asked this question and glad to see the answers.
Me? In addition to the stock tools, I carry a phone, a flashlight, raingear and a towel. I have a credit card and roadside assistance with Progressive Insurance. But then most of my riding is commuting with too few trips to the countryside.
I've seen various lists of stuff to carry, and if I were going on a long, multi-day trip (which I haven't done yet), I'd at least investigate the patch/pump option. I fear taking much of the rest would cut into storage for other stuff. Plus, I agree with the comment, how the hell will I do this on the side of the road in the rainy dark anyway (cuz I know that's when any breakdown will happen).
One reason I went with the FJR was dependability. I'm near 50, and while I haven't logged many miles on a bike, I've logged plenty in cars, including 20 years with an MGB as a daily driver. Machines as well engineered as the FJR usually don't just "break down" without some warning. Proper maintenance, and a good ear will keep you out of trouble most of the time. Take care of your bike or car when you can, and it probably won't let you down when you're in the middle of nowhere and need it.
