I bought one of these really cheap/small Sparrow Airman compressors to keep on the bike for emergencies.

I had to cut off the aligator clips in order to install a Jastek "BMW style" plug on it. However, I neglected to mark which wire was connected to the red(+) and which was the black(-/ground) clip. In doing testing though with a voltage source, it looks like it'll blow up a small plastic bag about the same no matter which way I connect it. Does that make senese? Also, it seems to take a long time to put even a small amount of air for a baggy inflate.

Doesn't matter, it'll either suck or blow (like a cheap $2 whore), then swap the terminals

(like a cheap $2 whore) :p

That's what I was sort-of expecting (suck vs. blow, being a DC motor and all), but emperically, it softly blows no-matter which way it's connected. Sort of like your classier hookers, I guess. :erm:

I have the Airman battery operated compressor, you charge it up before hand and it then runs off an internal lithium battery.

It seems a lot smaller than the unit in your picture, although I will say this, mine doesn't feel like it pushes out much air until I connect it to a valve stem.

Then it is real good, I think the valve stem opens up a 2 way valve in the pump.

Skippy

That picture actually makes it look bigger than it is; to get an idea of size, it fits perfectly in the underseat tool tray of an ABS.

I hadn't thought that a valve stem would open up a valve inside the clip, I'll try that with one of the blowup beach-toys adapters that came with it.
