From our local newspaper today:

WA Highway 14 between Carson and White Salmon will be closed five days a week from 4pm-6pm beginning March 1st through Sept. 2nd. The work will also include rock-clearing near White Salmon, but a detour will be available to motorists to use Hwy 141 to loop through town.

And beginning June 15th and running through Sept 2nd, WA Hwy 14 will be closed four times a day, interspersed by one-hour blocks of time to allow traffic to go through. The highway will be closed each day 7am-9am, 10am-noon, 1pm-3pm and 4pm-6pm. There will be no detours available during the two-hour closures. Workers will be removing loose rock, unstable soil, trees and other debris from the slope above the highway.

For those of you who don't know the area, you can get around this closure by crossing the Columbia River at either Hood River or Cascade Locks and using I-84. Be aware both of these bridges have steel-grate surfaces (they pretty much feel like you're riding on marbles, but you'll get used to it), and both are toll bridges (.50 for cycles).

Much Obliged. Planned on traveling that route during that time frame on more than a couple of occasions.

Keep Going!

Thanks for the post. Living in Vancouver/Portland, I take Hwy 14 many many times over the summer.

Having been told this so many time in his life, Panman now pre-empts everyone by banishing himself up front!

Me ride up front? They would rather have me lost than have to run over me!
