Went to a neraby town,(50 miles) this week. Once there, we applied sunscreen, as we walked around and did the tourist thing for 2-3 hours. Riding back, it was in the mid 80's and as I began to sweat, the residual sunscreen did a real number burning my eyes. Anyone aware of a sunscreen product that doesn't do this? I was using the Walmart No-Ad 60.

Thanks.

Jack.

I only apply the sunscreen to my nose and cheeks. Everything else is covered by the helmet. I suppose that one needs to plan ahead if stopping for more than 20 minutes, but in that case a hat in one of the sidecases works well.

That's what I be doin! Walgreens sells an excellant 45+ face suncreen with zinc oxide , the white stuff rubs in clear now, not like the white nose lifeguards used to have.

...so ya put the sunscreen on yer face...some time goes by and yer nose itches, or for some other reason ya rub/scratch/touch yer face where ya slavered on the sunscreen...it migrates into yer eyes...they itch, water and burn from the sunscreen that has contaminated them orbs...moral of the story: when you apply sunscreen to your face, don't touch it or it will get in your eyes...

Use one designed for your face. It won't burn your eyes.
Not always true. I use a fancy french 60 spf on my face and it burns my eyes very badly.

Read the pkging to be sure.

Learned this the hard way while tournament fishing...lol.

Don't put it above your eyes, even if it reads "won't burn eyes".

If you need sun protection above your eyes, wear some kind of hat.

I remember reading a story awhile back where a Goldwing(?) rider was traveling with his wife (she was driving their pickup) and conversing on the CB while enroute. The Goldwing rider's sunscreen on his forehead ran into his eyes and combined with sweat apparently blinded him by causing his eyes to involuntarily slam shut. He radioed her of his dilemma (at highway speed) and she "talked" him to the side of the road over the CB. Great save on his/her part so now I NEVER put any sunscreen above my eyes. Good lesson from a ride that could have ended badly.

I was told by my doc that some sunscreens have a chemical that evaporates off and will REALLY burn your eyes. Not noticeable when we're walking around, but jam your head into a full-face brain bucket and close the visor and there's nowhere for the fumes to go. No idea what the chemical is that does this, but if I'm wearing sunscreen I always keep the visor cracked open some to let things vent.

YMMV

Griff
