As predicted, Kyndall and I woke up on Thursday morning to temps in the mid 20's so decided to postpone our departure for a couple hours to let things warm up. Thankfully, none of the snow that had been in the forecast materialized.
First stop: lunch at the True Grit Cafe in Ridgeway, CO. The Duke was right there between us keeping an eye on things.
Next was Lizard Head Pass. I'd been worrying about snow up there for a week but we lucked out and found nothing more than some scattered clouds.
All smiles...
We arrived in Page too late to join the happy hour group at the marina, but we got there in plenty of time for the grand opening of Niehart's most excellent 106 Bar.
Either Kyndall was really tired from the ride, or Jill was explaining the history of the study of microbiology.
Preparing to depart for the ride to the North Rim. Kyndall and I were a little confused about the time since our cell phones were picking up a cell tower over in Utah and giving us Utah time. We showed up an hour early and for a half hour, we couldn't figure out why everybody was just milling around in shorts and t-shirts and not getting geared up to go. Eventually, someone filled us in.
Group photo time:
First stop out of Page:
Some shots from the North Rim:
Tire kicking into the evening:
Kyndall and I, along with a handfull of others, opted not to ride on Saturday, so we decided to check out the marina for lunch and look at some of the expensive boats.
Based on the name, I think this was the group's favorite.
Later, I rode down to check out the dam. Here's a shot of the hotel from the dam.
The rest of Saturday evening was filled with happy hour by the pool, the banquet, and back to the popular 106 bar.
Don just found out that the 106 bar doesn't serve food. And that creepy pony-tailed old guy back in the shadows sure looks like he's up to something. :****:
Sunday morning, we were on the road early. Believe it or not, we had to go all the way back to Cortez, CO to enjoy our first Mexican food of the trip. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
This one's just for fun....
And finally, getting close to home, we had to stop for a couple of shots of the aspens.
Special thanks to Burk for herding the cats and putting this together, to Don for organizing the rides, and to Dave for running a fine tavern.
