I just happened to be looking at the SWMOTO site for tires/prices and see they "do not recommend" the front 120/70R/17 Storm. No such disclaimer for the rear Storm. So what caused this disclaimer?

I haven't been keeping up with the forum lately, so maybe I missed something. I know this is about tires, but thought this section might be better than the NERT-- I'm not into pro/cons of a tire.

Bummer-- I have a set on my '06 with a new set waiting on the rack in the garage now.

I asked them directly by e-mail and received a brief reply stating that they were getting too many returns from customers. I have a set with over 10k miles on them and have had no issues with them.

I thought that might be the reason.

Only 6,000 on mine, but so far so good. I will keep my fingers crossed on the second set.

Thanks for the reply. B)

In truth, it is the tire's association with TWN. Such an endorsement is just not what the business had in mind for a prosperous future.

:****:

The real truth is that people spend too much time huffin' choanies instead of setting their suspensions properly. Sadly, SWM just can't seem to get that point across.

:bleh:

Sounds like they are concerned with unsatisfied customers... Can't blame um for that....

I have never tried the Storms BUT won't because of this forum. Too many members here

swear against them. Some have liked them BUT too many haven't.

AND YES I DID THE SEARCHING!

you'll have to talk to scab or bill clinton bout that one. In tejas it's legal to love our ostrich.

I am going to contact Avon USA about the highly unusual wear pattern and feel of the AV55 Front tire. I had an Avon AV45 Azaro on the front of my Blackbird so I'm used to some squirming at low speeds but the Storm feels the same as a dirt bike knobby tire with a bump thrown in for good measure. I've never felt a front street tire bump and squirm like the AV55 Storm does. Additionally, I can feel it bumping at highway speeds, creates a rather violent deceleration wobble below 60 mph and has started cupping, quite noticably, at 4,000.

I'm on my second set of Storms and will buy another set when these wear out. 9000+ out of my first set and I think I'll do better with the second set. Lots of fast freeway miles but they work great when the curves come along.

I know there has been alot of bad press on this forum about the Storms. I've had a good experience with my set. 10,000+ miles and probably could get another 1000 or so out of them. The riding season is winding down here in the mid-west with maybe another month left. I'll be replacing my treads next spring but will probably try something else. Although, I wouldn't hesitate to buy the Storms again if I run across a good deal.

My Storms currently do have cupping but for the flat roads here, it's not a problem. You do have to be careful in the curves though if you can find some around here. Notice I said curves, not twisties! :)

I will go on record to say the Storms were much better than my stock Metzlers.

I just took a Storm off the rear........got about 11k out of it. Still have decent tread on the front so it is still on the bike. I have not had any indication of "hands off deceleration wobble" with the OEM's or the Storms.

PS Jeff Ashe apparently never changed a rear GL1800 E3 tire............the people who make the No-Mar tire changer claim it is the toughest motorcycle tire to change.
