engine warm...sitting at a traffic light...the tac tends to wiggle/shiver/dance like

1/16" inch with center of movement consistently at 900rpm

is this normal???

I'm a little tempted to raise the idle to 1000rpm, but I wondered what you engineheads thought

I also wonder if it was different (rock solid) before I had the valve replaced and sent the injectors for examination & cleaning.

Is there anything to do injector wise like tuning...

I wonder if a tbs would be highly recommended

For crying out loud Mikey! How long have you been around here? Idle should be around 1100 rpm.

FWIW, as my FJRs have gotten higher mileage they tend to not be rock solid steady at idle. No biggie. Ride more, stress less.

I thought the 1100 was the unrecommended idle to cure the bad, old CCT sounds

silly me

ok, where's the idle adjustment...I've never touched it or looked for it

ha, google is my friend, too:

Mike, 1100 RPM is the idle speed that cures stalling when dropping to idle, rough idel, stalling on throttle-up from idle. All of that stuff goes away with the idel at 1100.

But for your original question, a little bumping up and down is just indicative of a less-than-perfect idle. Nobody cares, because it doesn't matter.

+1 that adjusting the idle up to the 1100/1200 range will resolve your reported symptoms - I added Beowulf pipes to my new to me 2009 with 700 miles on it, noticed the stalling at that point and then added a Power Commander to resolve the stalling off idle issues with no change. Then I had the bike remapped on a dyno and still no change. Tonight I upped the idle from just under 1000 to 1200 and she ran smooth as can be.

Agree with Viking88. I like all my bikes to have a bit higher than 'normal' idle.

In the dirt, the higher idle will pull you around corners at higher speeds than you think you can do.

In the street, just a bit of clutch and you can launch, no stall.

My new engine in KrZy8 has more idle fluctuation than the OEM powerplantl, even though new throttle bodies and near perfect TBS. I just quit looking at the damn tach needle, instead having watching volts. Hey Mike, how's your charging circuit? :dribble:  :glare:  :yahoo:

+ 1 with Skooter on the TBS. I've been having issues with the fouling of #4 plug, still may need a valve check, but done everything else, and the fouling has been better. Up until this point I also had a jumpy, jerky tach needle. The dude who did my TBS was a hack, and come to find out the bike has been like that for a while. Scott, CanadianFJR has the guru, the bike is going there sometime in Sept or Oct for a "real work up".
