just had my TBs synced ,,

I had read on several threads about what a difference it would make ,, and that over time you would not notice the loss of power,, I was skeptical and thought ,,how could you miss a difference in performance??

WOW what a difference,, strong responce and take off ,,

the tech that did mine had never worked on an FJR ,, he used the merc rod tool ,,

I am a very happy rider

Yep, did plugs and TBS yesterday. Things weren't out THAT far, but nice improvement in the smoothness factor. Instead of the idle sync, I tried the 4000 rpm version instead. Now the tingle in the levers at speed is GONE! :D

This is possibly a dumb question but here goes...

Is there a good way to tell if I need a TBS or not? I'm abt to call the dealer to sked the 4000 mile service.

FYI, the bike runs fine. I do feel the 4000 rpm buzz in the grips but nothing too significant.

Thanx.

I am at 7900 miles and the 9000 mile service says to sync the tb ,, so I am not one to wait , and I change my engine and final drive lube every 1500 miles (mobil 1 synthetic since 3500 ),, the buzz in the grips is gone ,, but as I said I did not feel the tbs were out , my tech said they were not out that much,, 1 and 4 about an inch and a 1/4 out ,,using the merc rod tool,,

you might want to pm Warchild or one of the other more experienced owners ,, their knowledge and threads are what I have relied on since delivery of Galxy5

Define "need". The bike will run without it, sure. But smoothness always improves with a synch. This is, after all, a bike with four one cylinder engines, the synch gets them all working in harmony, and on the same page.

As I have said (typed) before, buy the carb tuner and sync those puppies yourself. The money you save ONCE for the service pays for the tuner. And it is EASY!!! And then you can do it fairly regularly. Makes a big difference in smoothness to be sure.

Nope, have no idea how to tell if you need it. Of course if you have the carb tuner, you can hook it up in about 5 - 10 minutes and KNOW if you need it.

Holy **** you change your oil and shaft lube out EVERY 1500 miles?

You might want to find another tech..Spec's call for the throttle bodies to all be within 10mm or 3/8". If I read your post correctly, #'s 1 & 4 were 1 1/4" out or 32 mm. That's three times what ahamaY calls for... You should have seen (felt) an improvement in that case.

As rocket says, get a set of sticks and do it yourself. Money well saved.

HMMM

as I said WOW!!!

feels smooth and so good on takeoff's

or did you miss that??

and yes ,,,,, I'm a lubeaholic

and I expect this bike to do over 100,000 miles ,, so I am taking very good care of lube ,, grease

I'm pretty sure that I screwed mine up a couple of months ago when I did the TBS for the second time when I hit 4k. The bike is noticeably buzzier at all speeds.

Also, I'm only getting about 38 MPG as opposed to the 43 MPG that I used to get. Is it likely that having an out of sync bike would reduce gas mileage at all?

I have much less patience for slow pokey cagers than I had with my last bike and that may be affecting the mileage as well. :)

Now where did I put that carbtune?...

Cheers,

Jim
