Going to be ordering a Quest II and not sure which Techmount would be best

stem mount (any problems seeing over a tank bag?)

or mirror mount (does it obstruct your view of the mirror)

Also, should I consider one of these top plates with rubber bushings?

I have both. You'll find less vibration from the stem stand. Not interference from the tank bag. I don't have pics of the setup elsewise, I post 'em fer ya.

I installed the Techmount on the FJR also. I have a Garmin V mounted on a Ram mount holder which bolts to the techmount. Works great. Dosnt interfere with seeing the speedo to tack. However, I saw on their website, other choices for a shorter stem for the mount. I bought the shortest one they made. The stem is about 1.5 inches long and allows the unit to fit nicely between the bars. I'M GLAD I GOT THE SHORT ONE!!! The one you show in the picture early in this string is too high in my opinion. The short one is also less able to grab a finger or your nuts in the event of a crash. It is also easier to put the key in the ignition. The long one, if it is rocked all the way foreward, will not allow for the key to be put in the ignition without bending your hand around the back of the GPS. If the long mount is rocked back towards the rider, true it wont bother the line of sight to the gauges/speedo. However, when sitting in the normal riding position, you will have to look downwards and move your helmet to see the GPS. The full face helmet blocks the view of the GPS with the chin piece.

I realize that there are only a few ways to mount a GPS to the FJR. The only reason to use the longer stem mount is in order to fit the GPS between the bars without hitting. Measure first!

I also called Powerlet and used the premade setup for an outlet on the right side. This install was very easy too. They also have a 4 pin curley cord that wont interfere with steering. Looks clean and is reliable.

Powerlet 4 pin powercord:

Short shaft stem mount:

Ram mount:

Hope this helps! :)

Techmount Stem Mount and Garmin GPS III+. It sits VERY nicely tucked between the bars and I have no problem seeing it over my tank bag. I went with the shorter stem so that it stayed tucked in low. I didn't bolt it either, I used automotive velcro on both... never had a problem.

Note the elevation on the second picture... darned WY is up there!

I use a mirror mount for my Escort Solo S2 and no interference whatsoever. Let us know how it works out as I have intentions on mounting a Techmount stem for my 2610. Inquiring minds want to know....

Duff.....Excellant photos. I was not a fan of the stem mount until I saw your setup. Looks much better than what I was planning (up high over the left bar).

I was at the NYC cycle show and a company (Cyclegadgets, I think) was showing off a stem mount w/ a powered base for the GPS where you could take it off the bike and use it somewhere else w/o a rewiring. What seems to be the best GPS for someone who hasn't had one before. I seem to recall a fellow FJR owner who was selling here.

Stem mount with the short shaft has been ordered. Will post pics once received and installed. Thanks again for the feedback.
