So I found a bike nearby and got lucky enough to get the dealership to let me do a test run. The only thing i can say is....this thing is amazing! Coming from a Ninja 250, and then an F650GS Dakar, the handling overall is much different, better, and stable. I jumped on the interstate and took a tight turn leaning pretty far down on the on-ramp. I would have never leaned so far on my previous bikes. It almost begs to get thrown into twisty roads, it felt natural! As soon as i got off the bike, i sat down and started paperwork. There was no "thinking about it" phase. I'm getting an '06 with 14k miles for a smudge under 7k. Includes aftermarket exhaust, heated front/rear corbin seats, smuggler seat, and backrest, and all stock original parts aswell. Anyone else think i hit jackpot?

I feel like a little kid right now...this thing is intense when it's moving. Hope to see you guys in future rides. I'll be an FJR owner come Saturday!

I went from a very light suzGS500 to the FJR after 7K miles. Hardest thing to get used to was not speeding and how top heavy it is at slow speeds. Don't hit the brakes hard at 3mph with the wheel turned in a parking lot. Remember the darn thing is over 600 pounds.

No kidding about the speeding. I noticed the RPM were very low while doing 75. So much more power in this beast. I didn't notice much of it being top heavy, but then again I rode a tall dirt bike for a year. I'll definitely keep in mind not to cut the wheel and slam the brakes...I don't need any nut-checks

JACKPOT!! :yahoo:
Thats exactly how i felt!

....you gonna share those donuts?

I have a Dakar also- The power difference is BIG.

I like the balance of the Dakar.

Stay tuned to this forum for great advice and get involved in some meetings.

I know of at least one forum member nearby you who could show you how to

add more farkles than you thought could ever fit on a bike. :p

Ohhh yeahh i noticed. 3 more cylinders makes a huge difference on these things. I could barely balance the dakar being that i could barely set foot on the ground with it.

As far as farkles go...i'm already compiling a list. My dakar was pretty farkled out (i'm coining "farkled", i expect royalty payments for use). This should be loads of fun!

Yeah that is a good deal. If you find out you really don't want that smuggler I have an 06 that needs one. :) I got mine in November luvin' every minute of it. While you are building that list the G2 throttle tube should be near the top. Several have the Power Commander III as well. Mine came with both so I haven't actually experienced the unmodified 06 yet.

I'll have to see if this bike as the G2 or a PC3. It's pretty heavily modified as it is, so there may be more the dealer has overlooked. But definitely good advice! Thanks!

Something else i was thinking about.

Does anyone else have any type of alarm set up on their bike? I know some people frown upon it, but where i live....i'd rather put an alarm on it and deter people, than have my beauty turn up missing.

I ponied up for a LoJack. I'd rather have it back in a few hours than accept an insurance settlement. ;) Welcome to the best Forum on earth. You are going to love this Bike. :D

Congratulations and Woo-Hoo!!!! :yahoo: Welcome to The Collective.

Man I love posts like these. Reminds me of, 1) What an awesome bike I ride, and 2) How much smarter I am than everybody else for starting riding it almost 9 years ago!!!

How much did the LoJack run you? I can't find a definitive price anywhere.

2) 9 years ago i was 15. i don't think i could have pulled off riding one then :p

But yeah this forum is great. Lots of help, people actually willing to help. i was on a bmw forum for my dakar (they whom should not be named!) and whenever i asked something, i got mad arrogant flaming. I guess it goes with the territory. When i get it, I'll definitely post pictures on here of it!

Gorilla Alarm for me. Works well as long as you don't set the sensitivity too lightly.
