I want to thank everyone on this forum for all their very helpful advice and postings. I did alot of research before purchasing an 06. So far the FJR has lived up to my high expectations and I'm enjoying riding it very much. My old bike was an 84 Kawasaki Ninja, so this is a big step up for me. As an added bonus I was born in 1963 and my VIN is 00063. (must be fate)

I use my bike primarily for going to work and at least 1 long tour each year as well as going for day trips on the weekends. From reading all the topics in this forum I decided to add a few accessories to make the trips just that little bit more comfortable.

The first thing I added were the decals from Alexfjr. They look cool in the daytime and light up like beacons at night.

I heard about loud horns so I bought the Magnum Blasters from Hornsplus and used the post from Mindtrip to help with the installation. His idea of using the supplied brackets worked perfectly. I used a 30 amp relay from Radio shack with heavy 12 ga wire. My wife liked them so much I installed the chrome ones on her Honda Shadow.

I bought a Garmin 2610 GPS, the special steering nut bracket and the Garmin motorcycle quick connect cradle. I followed the post from Warchild and installed a 6 pin distribution block with a 30 amp relay from Radio shack. This made the other accessories easy to hook up to the hot connection and they are switched, fused and relay protected. There is tons of room for everything to be neatly hidden under the front fairing.

On the advice of guys from this forum I purchased a set of Dual Star grip warmers and the Heat Troller controller. I followed the install post from Tom Barber and to my amazement the install went very smoothly. The compressed air trick to remove and install the stock grips worked perfectly. I mounted the heat troller on the left side of the fairing and hooked up the grips omitting the blue wires as Tom suggests. I have driven for 3 hours at 6 deg Celcius and had warm hands with my summer gloves. The Heat Troller was only set about half way. I followed the wire trick to keep the Dual Star wires from pulling out on the throttle side. I was able to run the clutch side thru the signal box. My Yamaha dealer wanted $600 for a set of Yamaha grips installed. So I guess that means you guys saved me about $500 on this farkle alone.

I haven't posted anything groundbreaking, but I do want to say thankyou again for everyone who takes the time to help the rest of us out. A special thankyou to Warchild for the FJRTech.com web site.

So....Moosehead, you want to hook up on a Saturday, or Sunday morining @ the top of 20 by Ridge Road at the Egg & I....or maybe @ the Icehouse in Campbellville????

Great post Moosehead and thanks for the pictures. I'm sure the post was appreciated by those who offer the help. I'm up in your neck of the woods so maybe I'll see you around.

Where did you order the craddle from?

FJR1300,

I ordered the cradle from Amazon.com for $33.95.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000ESZV...032727?n=172282

If you want to use the steering nut mount you will need an adapter plate from JC Whitney

https://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Search?...10101&sku=60991

The set up is nice because I can use the GPS on my bike or in my car. The cradle also comes with an audio plug for an ear bud if you want to have sound with the GPS. The cradle uses the sub-mini size plug. You can either get an adapter(Radio Shack p/n 2740327D) or use an earbud with the sub-mini end (2.5mm).

I hope this helps

Wow! Great job. I like that GPS setup. Is the steering nut mount made by Garmin? That is exactly what I am looking for.

I got the steering nut mount from Cyclegadgets.com for $59.95.

If you choose to use the Garmin cradle you will need the adapter plate (see post above). It also has the advantage of less vibration because of the rubber grommets. Make sure you wrap the nut with electrical tap so that it doesn't get marked during install or removal. If you need more pics or info just ask.

Awesome stuff! It sure is great to have such good resources. Really builds up your confidence

level eh?

Care to share more info on thoses cool decals?

Thanks for sharing this info. I just picked up a used 2610 from another forum member and have recently been informed that the resident forum vendor for GPS won't sell me any accessories if I don't buy the GPS unit from him.
...for those that consider Costco for your GPS needs, please do us a BIG favor and don't ask us to support you with accessories or technical questions.
It's good to know that info is still freely available from other forum members.

I saw a post from a forum member AlexFJR. I think he has them custom made just for us here at FJR Forum. He was great to deal with. The decals arrived promptly and in excellent condition. He also has patches and other decals in limited quantities.

Moose, have you double checked the clearance to the horns and the fork/front fender when it bottoms? Not to throw a damper on things but it looks like it would be pretty close especially if the fork is turned even slightly. I am not familiar with the 06 but on my 03 things were pretty tight up in there when the fork traveled in jounce and if the horns were sticking out like that they would definitely hit. Better to find it now.....

I recently replaced my older Fiamm's with a new, smaller set from NAPA Auto Parts, called "Highway Blaster Horns" or something like that, also made by Fiamm, and rated at 135 db. Big sound in a small size=No clearance issues.

Thanks for tip Jestal. The pictures don't do the install true justice. I just checked the bike with the wheel all the way to the left and right and there is .125" - .188" clearance between the largest diameter of the fork and the horn.

However I never thought about the fender on the other side. If the fork travels 3.75" with the wheel turned all the way, the fender would hit the horn. I can't see how the fork would travel that far when it's fully turned so I really don't think there is a problem. If the fender gets scratched I give you permission to say "I told you so".
