But, back to the original topic. Thanks for all the thanks! I enjoyed it as much as everyone else did. And, thanks to all the hooligan bikers who came and helped to make it fun. We had a great bunch of folks there, and it was a pleasure meeting all of them. As much fun as riding the twisty, scenic roads was sitting around in front of the motel rooms on the "porch" looking at bikes , kicking tires, getting to know the guys and gals, and talking motorcycles.

And, unless something untoward happened on the way home that I have not heard about yet, there were no crashes, performance awards, or arrests! :) ^_^

The weather cooperated too, except for the winds, for some folks, on the way there and on the way back. Yesterday afternoon after everyone left Custer, a cold front came through with some strong winds and a little drizzle. But for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, we could not have asked for much better weather in the third week of September. Lots of sunshine, variable temperatures, but not extreme; and not a drop of rain. The high temps varied from 60 to 90.... keeping everyone on their toes!

I believe there was one performance award, but I will let him explain if he cares too.

+1 on the "THANKS" to Jackson, Devantor and all who contibuted to this years CFO meet!! It was GREAT!

Wish I could say that for the trip heading home with the nasty winds. Had my shield flip open-still can't believe it didn't fly right off the helmet! Felt good to pull into the motel Sunday night in MN, headed for home at 6:30 a.m today, ending with 2600+ miles for the trip.

Enjoyed meeting all of the people and riding with many of you!!

I will admit to the performance award on the way out. As anyone who heard my story can recall, the best part was when the cop said "70 MPH is just way to fast for a motorcycle." If he only knew. Oh well, the ticket is just part of doing business.

Redundant I know, but please add my thanks to the bunch. you guys did a great job. iI hopped in at the last minute and everyone couldn't have been nicer or more accomodating. I am hoping that next year I can set more time aside and make the trip in a couple of chunks and enjoy more of SD. Had a blast!

By the way. Whoever ordered up the extra dose of crosswinds on I-90, please, don't bring that back. At a rest stop on the eastern third on SD, a guy in a pickup hopped out and ran up to me with a big smile on his face. Turns out I had passed him a ways back on the freeway. He looked me in the eye, put out his hand and said, "you're having a prety sh***y day, aren't you?" I then saw his BMWMOA t-shirt and realized he has been there, done that. nice guy. Had to tell me of similar trials on the same road. Tells me I haven't lived until you feel both tires slide sideways at 80mph on that slab. maybe I just don't want to 'live' that much...

looking forward to next year!

Hopefully Kilroy can get that F1 engine in his bike by next year, so he can run it up to 20K RPM, and never, ever, ever, have to touch his brakes. :biggrinsmiley:
Nah, a nine-grand redline keeps me off the brakes just fine ;)

Thanks to Jackson, Devanator and all the rest who made this event very enjoyable. This was my first experience at this type of gathering and I had a great time. You all are a great friendly bunch and I enjoyed spending time riding and visiting with you. My friend asked me if I succumbed to peer pressure, and I said no; but then I did retract my comment because when I was riding with Don I did notice some wear on the sides of my tires that I had never had before. Although I did not attempt to keep up with him, he did "inspire" me. My ride with Mike and Stan was a lot of fun and the hike up the back of George Washington's head let me know what kind of physical condition I am in. I look forward to riding with you folks in the future.

I arrived in Buffalo right at 7PM. I made the 630 miles in 12 1/2 hours. The winds were a little gusty across South Dakota which made it more tiring when passing trucks and going across bridges. When I arrived home I noticed that I was 32 miles just short of 5,000 miles for the total trip from Buffalo MN to Santa Cruz and back. Whew!

I want to retire so I can do this more often like Longrider from California.

Thanks all.

Bill
